I have a 4 and a half year old Asus ROG Strix laptop that i’m desperately trying to keep going for this very reason. It’s honestly a piece of shit that’s on the verge of death and I wish I never bought it. but it’s powerful, 1tb ssd, 32 gigs of ram, still decent Nvidia GPU and the battery still works. But the stupid thing has now started to randomly reboot under heavy network loads or intense online gaming. Even with Linux it’s become noticeably more unstable and I have no idea why. Troubleshooting is hit or miss. figured it was the internal wifi card so decided to unplug it and go ethernet/phone tether. nope. I throttled the CPU down thinking it was thermals, cleaned the fans and repasted. nope. adjust all the nvidia kernel settings under the sun, nope. Now i’m trying some AMD TPM thing and seeing it that does it. it’s infuriating. I’ve had PCs that have lasted WAY longer than this thing, even Macs. But I know i’ll just have to salvage the parts from this thing eventually. pull out the ram, ssd, etc for something else.

I’ll never buy another Asus laptop again.
