My former workplace stopped publishing the stats on which department had the most failures when the first round showed more than half of the executives clicked the scam link in their email.

Thank you for the explanation! Makes sense to me.

I’ve been trying to get on ripping my dvd library, but some of this stuff flies over my head:
Can you give me a gist on what a “remux” is & why you prefer it over encoding it? From the context it seems like it’s similar to lossless vs lossy codecs for audio?

Ah, finally going after the cops, right?
… right?

… well, at some point any hobby grows to the point where purists show up.
There’s give and take with everything. Is it “self” hosted if you rely on Docker - a 3rd party with control over their own infrastructure? Or hosting it on a Debian OS? Is it really “private” if it’s connected to the internet at all?
Are you running the Plex Server application on some hardware so other devices can access the library? Hey, that’s self-hosting. That’s it.

Still a better outcome than when a fireworks show “glitches”.

I’ll see if I can invoke Cunningham’s Law, here -
No, I don’t think it happens. There’s not enough financial incentive to un-enshittify, and often the companies that turn their products to crap were bought/sold to investors. To un-enshittify the product, the new owners would have to care about a long term investment and actually spend time & energy to learn whatever business they just bought up. Just doesn’t make sense when their end goal is to quickly sell it for a profit, even if it means stripping the otherwise-healthy business for parts.

I’m in the throes of attempting a migration from Plex (lifetime pass, here) to Jellyfin, and my main issue is echoed elsewhere: It’s a headache to set up secure external access. My users would either need a new account through some auth gate I’d have to set up & manage, or I’d have to wire everyone up through wireguard or something they’d have to remember a password for and blah blah blah.
Plex is the only thing my home server is sharing. I don’t have anything directly exposed to the external internet. In any case I can think of, doing this “right” means extra steps (on top of new steps) for my current users, plus new security concerns & added user management for myself.

I really don’t understand it. I’ve played a little of both Dota & LoL and it’s the same group of miserable pricks. Is there a moba that doesn’t have a lethally toxic player base?

Surface Pro owner. Can confirm - worst computer I’ve owned. Gets hot to the touch when you open Notepad.

I have a big soft spot for these LEGO games, and I might own all of them. Have never / would never pay $70 for one.

It pushes the responsibility for those drivers onto someone else. Back in the day, if your delivery car was busted you had to get a backup. Now, the franchise is unaffected. Some other DoorDash driver will take their place and the pizza place doesn’t need to lift a finger.
Did the driver get in an accident while delivering the pizza? That’s their problem. Take up the missing order with DoorDash support. Pizza place keeps chugging.

Thing is, I remember a time when getting cosmetic surgery / Botox was the “I’d never do that” thing. Now it’s getting harder to find people in the public eye who haven’t had it.
I think all it’d take is Google/Apple/Meta/MS to normalize the requirement.

Galactus. Not good, not evil. Just a big, hungry boy.

Huh. I’m unclear on what law he might’ve broken. It’s definitely an eyebrow-raiser to be storing that much cash in your mattress, but I didn’t catch what was “wrong” about it.
