    In most countries and in the past, a tip had another meaning than today. This is a cultural thing. We in Europe read “tip” and expect a “tip”. But it’s just another hidden cost. Well, as in the supermarket, if you know the local tax rate, you can calculate the price before you pay at checkout. A tip is much easier in this regard.

    40% seems a bit steep. But maybe it’s one of the restaurants where the employees are washing your hands after you pee.
