  • That’s fair. In my perspective, the “go here, do this, shoot that” is a symptom of needing to fill out the gameplay loop without investing heavily into world building or genuine reason, because that’s all being spent on the main story beats. But in some games, that’s all there is to do.

Perhaps you are looking for a game where either:

    • the game is very focused on a single narrative, and never lets you waste your time
    • the game has very little structure and asks you to create your own fun out of a big world

  • People like you act like calling out downvotes immediately invalidates any reason someone might disagree with you. Unfortunately for you, you are not the arbiter of social opinions.

I don’t think AI is, in its current form, as unethical as child labor or slavery. However, the widespread push for datacenters as a means to run AI, as well as the continued scarcification of clean drinking water (even in the ‘first world’) will likely lead to a lot of awful outcomes. We already see this with monopolization of water control across the ‘first world’, with more salient examples coming from parts of the world where water has always been scarce.

I’m downvoting you because you’re not considering the long-term human/ecological expense of these developments (which obviously there are plenty of other issues too), not because I’m fragile.

  • I don’t find soulslike games to be slow, but that may just be a result of me being used to the controls and therefore having a lot more agency of what my character does.

What I will offer as an actual rebuttal is this: the committal nature of slower movement and attacks really forces you to identify the right approach for a situation. Same reason why I prefer Greatsword/Hammer in older Monster Hunter games. You reach a point where your character looks like they’re demolishing enemies in a relatively effortless manner, but only because the player understands exactly what needs to be done.

The initial challenge is pattern recognition and strategy, the long-term challenge is consistent execution.
