Is there data to support this? I imagine if a fire breaks out in an apartment and I don’t wake up in time, I’m fucked anyway. Hopefully smoke detectors in all rooms will do their job.

I don’t see a request for feedback. I see someone asking for data from a commenter, saying they were probably fucked either way, and hoping smoke detectors would help. The only request was for supporting data, and why would you trust “data” from a random commenter?

It blows my mind that people will take safety advice from a random comment, question it, and expect another random comment to clarify for them, especially in a platform as small as Lemmy. It’s so alien a thought process to me that I can’t understand it, but it makes it easier to see how misinformation spreads so easily.

Are you asking for anecdotes or information? Because it would’ve taken less time for you to search than for me to search, write a comment, and post a link. Why are you on the internet if you want other people to read for you? Good on you to attack me for your laziness.

  • That depends. On most modern vehicles, the front brakes do the majority of braking. Cut the rear brake line and you may get several presses at what feels like adequate pressure, but when the master cylinder runs dry and sucks in air past the piston, no more brakes. Who knows without being there, but it’s definitely possible, especially for someone that doesn’t drive often or doesn’t notice a pedal feeling slight off. I have had people come in and hand me a brake pad that fround so thin it slipped out of the bracket. People can be oblivious sometimes.
