Hehe, cheers ;-)
Hehe, cheers ;-)
And I fucking love it
I hate java with a passion, C# was fun (but at that time only available through the .Net nightmare) and I grew up with (Turbo ;-)) Pascal and C
So, I’m feeling rather comfortable and at home with C++
I’d like to do a bigger project in Rust once at least, but with my current project already the compile times are between 20/25 to 45mins (depends, if you have the build server available or if you need to make up with the IPC).
so, I guess, those iterations would become even longer with Rust
But I’m also having the advantage, that my applications are running very, very isolated. So I don’t really need to take care about exposure and attacks.
Still… Finding a memory leak or some shared memory fuck up is everything but fun…
Especially as most of the logic runs in kernel space and debugging possibilities are mostly reduced to traces/log files
Still, I love it
Maybe it’s because of the thrill ;-)

To be fair, he said something about built-in
But I’m with you
The choice of high quality ad Blockers per addon is nothing that’s wrong with Firefox

Thank you :-)

Well, you should have seen the face and tears in the eyes of my neighbour who picked her up originally.
Yeah, she lives with us now and she is happy.
That’s fine
But they’ve chosen each other on the street and he made the adult choice to ask us, to care for them, because they currently can’t.
And he is trying his best to change that as fast as possible - as far as I know, they already found a place and want it’s now about payment, loyalities and whatever the fuck I don’t know about
The mother cat always happily greets him, when he comes for his daily visit.
But I have to admit, that the cat fell in love with my wife…
So there doesn’t matter how this ends, there will be tears
I’m currently just trying to hold all together and care as good as I can.
Mother cat likes me as well and so there is currently no problem
But yes… There will probably be a problem…
For now though, I’m focusing on getting everyone healthy and happy

And, because it seems people are interested, here a picture of the family from today

Kittens are getting bigger by the day
First they were just fuzzy worms and rolled around
By now they start to resemble real cats ;-)
Mother is always happy, when we visit her, so don’t worry, that we disturb her
She is really happy to get some love and attention
We sit there and pet her, while she purrs and cuddles her kittens :-)

That’s the plan anyway
But at the moment, that’s obviously too soon
Mother cat brought an abscess from a bite with her and it broke up 1-2 days ago.
We pressed it out and cleaned it up, and then flushed it out. And today the vet checked in on it.
The first thing now is to get everyone healthy.
Mother is getting pills against worms once a week and for now some antibiotics against the abscess, that aren’t hurtful to the kittens.
When everything is more settled, we gonna sterilise her - and castrate the kittens (since today we know, that they are probably both male)
But that’s next step thinking.
Edit: but maybe to add:
She is surprisingly healthy for an unchipped stray.
No fleas or ticks, got the ears cleaned out today and took care again about the abscess.
She is probably just one year old. So the kittens already seemingly start to outgrow her ;-)

As she came to my neighbour for help and he had tears in his eyes, when he needed to leave them with us (although we’re in the danger same building, just 2 doors away and can visit any time), those two are meant for each other
The kittens are currently a bit open
We have one person, who would take one - or both if needed
We aren’t sure, if we can really give them all away without being heartbroken and think about keeping one.
But we had a really tragic year with the final death of our loved cat last year and…we’re not really over it
We will see how it develops and I tend to give the cats the choice.
As usually cats have chosen me and not the other way round.
So we just give them time and until then care for them as best as we can
Edit: fuck me, my keyboard is stupid since the last update, or maybe it’s just the lack of sleep…

A rather sweet bonus picture, from where we picked them up at our neighbours

I’m not sure, if I understand the environment completely
Those agents were the virtual incarnations of the AI in the sim city and the respective government - correct?
And the AI needed to take care, that those agents didn’t died, like of hunger or what?
That’s not really what those LLMs are trained for.
Not sure, what they expected
Currently searching the article for the original source, maybe this gives more insight
Edit: ah, just in the first paragraphs it is
https://www.emergence.ai/blog/emergence-world-a-laboratory-for-evaluating-long-horizon-agent-autonomy
Completely missed it on the first read.
Let’s see if this makes more sense…
Edit 2: ok, if I get this right, those agents really were specific virtual individuals
Not sure what they expected. First, LLMs are not really build to “live” as an individual as they aren’t real intelligence and can only role play individuals based on their training data.
Second, why should they be super moral or “better”?
Again, they just role play depending on their training data and built-in prompt bias (not sure what the prompt injection of the company is called)
If you train an AI on governing such a world, it probably start gaming the system, depending on what values are important to “win”
As we have already seen with machine learning in the last decade(s?)
Funny experiment nevertheless, but not really useful in my eyes - and I’m everything but a defender of the current use of LLMs
Haven’t watched the video, but how does this work out in practice?
How can a CNC differ between my own design and a design I’ve got from a homepage?
Also, how can they block me from sharing my designs for fixing something on a device?
I’m a quite flabbergasted how this should work
Or is there no practical mechanism, only the law that makes everything illegal I try to fix?
That would also be quite an asshole move, but who cares, when I fix a broken hinge in an old appliance?
As long as I don’t return it for warranty, the producer has pretty much no say, what I do with my fucking stuff…?

I’m having some cheap devices with USB C plugs to charge, that stubbornly refuse to get charged with “better” cables. Only the real cheap ones work.
Probably because some pins must not be used or something, but it really sucks needing a separate cable around just for those devices
I get, that not every cable or device can support fast charging, but the other way round should at least work

Not much legal weed, were I’m from
Still the price stayed the same since now…nearly 25 years
With good connections or in bulk, it got even cheaper than before
Not sure how that works out with rising energy prices.
Maybe the switch to LEDs saved us here

I also believe, that he tries to normalise it.
Like in many other corrupt countries, corruption isn’t that big of a deal.
Pay a bit to get your documents faster? No problem.
Pay to get out of a speeding ticket? No problem.
But this needs to get normalised first, and I think he is doing exactly that.
Give people with money even more power, so they’re even more above the law, than they’re now.
Countries need years or decades to reverse established corruption systems.
He is speed running the other direction.
Edit:
Just saw KindnessIsPunk making a very similar statement, but probably put it better, than I did

And somehow weed street prices
Must be a quite mighty brain cell, but ok, I’ll take that
I know, this is an internet meme, but my orange cat was the most intelligent cat I’ve ever had
He communicated with different tones and sometimes tried to tell me whole stories - getting frustrated, when I didn’t understand him
Also, he brought exactly one dead mouse home - and that was on my 30th birthday, when he proudly laid it in front of me.
He was just the best cat I’ve ever had, and the “orange cats == dumb” meme always hurts a bit…
So, wasn’t really directed at you, but your comment was the drop, that made me comment

Yep, a clean build often got rid of the weirdest bugs I had, because some shared memory was misaligned, because, as you said, because of compile optimization, some parts didn’t know about the changes
I liked Gnome2, but never got the feeling for the current generation
Especially on a laptop I love tiling window managers, like i3
Not needing the mouse for basic things is really nice
Arch is great in my opinion
I’m not sure, if it was just my young age/experience with Debian, but now with Arch I could always save a system. With apt I sometimes preferred a complete re-install.
I actually really like Arch(& Arch based systems).
If that is the public opinion with C++ and Arch, I’ll need to re-evaluate my masochistic tendencies, it seems
