For most people with health immune systems you’ve got days before it’s more than a nasty black spot with moderate pain and intense itching around it.
Most people don’t realize they’re bit until a few days later when the mysterious bruise turns black in the middle.
Also, hospitals don’t hospitalize just because a patient is a “wuss”. Like going to the ER for a brown recluse bite is not a wuss move; it’s just common sense.
The story is three weeks old now, so I can’t throw out the “hope it kills 'im” bit, but it’s obvious going to the ER was the correct move given he was hospitalized.
