A British woman who was shot dead by her father while visiting his home in Texas had argued with him about US President Donald Trump earlier that day, an inquest has heard.

Lucy Harrison, from Warrington in Cheshire, was shot in the chest on 10 January 2025 in Prosper, near Dallas.

Police in the town investigated the 23-year-old’s death as possible manslaughter but no criminal case was brought against Kris Harrison after a grand jury in Collin County declined to indict him.

An inquest into Lucy Harrison’s death opened earlier at Cheshire Coroner’s Court, where her boyfriend Sam Littler described the “big argument” about Trump, who was preparing to be inaugurated for his second term of office.

It was a negligent discharge unrelated to the argument. This is a shitty article title and dad is a shitty gun owner and shitty dad tbf, but it wasnt political thing. You can really tell in the comments who read the whole article and who just started commenting. Even the summary doesn’t cover it right.

    Edit:

Rather than keep rewriting, this dude is an asshole, however:

    1. There was no indictment by grand jury. That means they went through jury selection and heard evidence and a majority of the jurors were not convinced. Counsel for defense AND prosecution agree to jurors, so it’s not like it’s a maga convention or a police department.
    2. 500 mL of wine (if verified) is 2/3 of a bottle, not drunk alcoholic rage quantity see 1. If he blew like 0.4, it seems to me it would be reported as part of the article.
    3. The guy bought one gun and is a Brit, not a born and raised gun toting southerner.
    4. Reasonable doubt. While I’m as big an antifer as the next guy on Lemmy, nothing good comes from jumping to conclusions and misrepresenting the facts of the situation by sensationalizing the title or not putting all the information in the summary. Again, see 1.

This. Sounds like we grew up in similar environments, and I’m with you. Sleazy weasel-fucking bastards that shouldn’t have ever evolved lungs will use what breath they’ve stolen from perfectly deserving cockroaches and millipedes to excuse their ‘indiscretions’.

Do you seriously believe that guys story

“He said: “As I lifted the gun to show her I suddenly heard a loud bang. I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell.”

An alcoholic POS who recently relapsed and said he wouldn’t care that his daughter was raped is now drunk and showed her a gun and it just went off for no reason and he couldn’t remember if his finger was on the trigger…

Give me a fucking break… he called her into the room and shot her and made up a story afterwards

You can believe whatever you like, but the title of the article should match the content, and you should read the content before you decide. It sounds like you did read it so good on you.

Based on my read of it, there’s definitely enough reasonable doubt that I’m not comfortable saying this guy murdered his daughter based on the content provided. I updated my original comment to say why.

He pointed a loaded, cocked firearm, and pulled the trigger with a minimum of 5 pounds of force

reasonable doubt that it was a premeditated murder I will buy

Reasonable doubt that he committed manslaughter, no chance

And considering his quote saying he wouldn’t be too upset if she was raped because he has two other daughters I think the title is accurate…
