It’s finally happened. After 14 years, over 700 consecutive days of daily use and 12,040 comments, I’ve deleted my Reddit account.
Another step away from US tech giants, and further into the Fediverse.
Even small steps count, so I can only encourage everyone to look around their own little world to see what alternatives there are to US products – particularly in the digital world, where there are now plenty of alternatives – often even better ones – if you look for them.

Yes, that was actually my biggest concern, and it still is. After all, it was precisely the active discussion of topics that made Reddit so interesting. And, of course, you could get a lot of unfiltered, first-hand information there (for example, about the conflict in Ukraine). I must admit I miss that here too. But ultimately, I told myself that nothing would change if everyone just kept things as they are, so sometimes you just have to take the initiative yourself.
What is significantly more positive here than on Reddit, however, is the quality and tone of the responses.
Yeah, it’s different. I think due to the “rewards” being less here with fewer karma you can build up or whatever the system was most commentary is to the point rather than being over the top trying to gain votes. There is good info here though, and a lot of Ukraine support info to be found.
