I was confused by this news because I buy games cheaper from other retailers all the time, even Steam keys. I assume this about full retail price, but since PC games go on sale so often, it seems like “average retail price” can easily be lower through another store front.

As far as I have always heard, it’s about the MSRP, unless a shop has a permanent sale, which essentially also causes a lower MSRP.

Summary using Kagi Summarizer (yes, A.I. , but I don’t want to watch a click bait vid that takes too long to get to the point):

Recent documents from the Wolffire lawsuit against Valve have brought to light allegations of monopolistic behavior concerning pricing parity. The report suggests that Valve has pressured publishers, including Ubisoft and Warner Brothers, to maintain price consistency across platforms by threatening to delist their games from Steam. While Valve representatives have denied the existence of a formal policy, internal communications indicate that this practice has been used to influence pricing on external storefronts. The legal proceedings serve as a crucial mechanism to uncover the truth behind these alleged practices. Regardless of the trial’s outcome, the transparency gained from these documents allows the public to scrutinize whether Valve has abused its dominant position in the PC gaming market. If proven true, these actions raise significant questions about corporate power and the freedom of developers to set prices independently of Steam.

I for myself am happy for that summary. I think one can’t deny that YouTube videos often can be summarized by a few sentences and what the summary provides in this case allows people to participate in the topic discussion without having to watch the video.

Don’t waste comment space by lazily pasting in the output of an AI, you bring down the quality of conversation here.

      Use your damn brain.

If you think the video is clickbait (it is not, Nerdnest is a massive fan of the Steam Deck/Steam) and you are too mentally incapable of checking yourself, just keep scrolling and don’t bother interacting next time please.

I’ve followed the nerd nest since before they were the nerd nest. Unfortunately their videos have gotten longer, while the information that I am interested in hasn’t grown along with it, so either:

        • I have to actively search through the video or its transcript, OR…
        • I have to suffer through 5 minutes of random crap I don’t care about or already knew, to find the one thing mentioned in the title, that made me click.

I think it’s fine and welcome that it was transparently stated that kagi ai was used.

I think the topic is interesting and worth of discussion but I don’t need to sit through a video necessarily.

I like people talking about topics videos in general btw. but not always.

And while I don’t know the channel of the person creating that video, the title is clickbait - that is true
