The save system (at least on PC) was a mess in the first game. After twenty hours or so the game decided to crash and corrupted the save file. No chance to restore it. All the progress, abilities, just gone beyond repair.

This could have been so easily avoided if the game would have given me multiple save slots. But the Devs decided to only have one, with no player control over it what so ever.

I never touched it again. Sad actually, Control was up to this point pure joy, the setting, the combat, the voice acting, the atmosphere, all top notch.

But if part 2 still only has one save slot I definitely won’t buy it.

I don’t want infinite saves, even saving on certain points in the game might be acceptable, but let me fucking chose out of five slots or so!

How would multiple save slots have helped a random bug which lost all your progress?

Auto save 27 becomes corrupted because of the crash, auto save 26 which has been untouched the last 10 minutes should be fine.

That makes sense. OP mentioning save slots made me think they were habitually duplicating their entire save file after each save or something!

Yes, HereIAm is right, that’s what I ment.

It should be easy for a developer to implement this, I have no idea why they went with this. No program is bug free, so it is just stupid.

I guess it’s a design decision so people don’t save-scum, but losing your whole game highlights a pretty massive issue with that design

The developers shouldn’t be opposed to players choosing to use saves however they want. They can encourage something, sure, but intentionally limiting players whose preferences don’t match theirs is crappy design.

Yeah I don’t like it when they remove what are essentially accessibility features in the name of their artistic vision. A classic is something like limiting when you can pause the game.

I couldn’t finish the first Control, the story and gameplay kept putting me to sleep.

Not trying to say it’s a bad game, I did try to enjoy it but ultimately couldn’t.

I got about 10 hours in and was enjoying it but then baldur’s gate 3 went on sale and I’ve not touched it since.

I’m aiming to go back to it eventually though. Liked the vibe.
