I’ve been working on degoogling. i got a fairphone 6 with e/os. its been a great push in the right direction because many google services i previously relied on such as google home dont work.

no worries, ive always wanted to get better with Home Assistant. but devices dont generally advertise if theyre compatable with home assistant. so i got the matter controller for home assistant, great. just arrived yesterday, and tried to add a matter bulb to test it out.

home assistant says i need to be on official android with the home assistant companion app downloaded from the play store, not the fdroid version

🤕

I’m not familiar with Google Matter, but you may find google alternatives for home assistant integrations at [email protected]

    I’ve been pleasantly surprised before.

Did it used to work? That sounds more like there’s a lag in the app updating. Likely your HA updated, but the fdroid version is an older version and it wants you to update, but the update isn’t available on fdroid yet so it’s pointing you to the play store

it seemed like home assistant handed me over to some official google matter onboarding app included in android.

maybe this is something they can integrate into home assistant proper eventually?

It needs the official google home thing. But you can still access the Matter controller webserver and do it from there. Assuming it’s the same WiFi your phone/desktop is on, you can find out what it’s IP is and what the address port route should be (from their docs) and it should work.

I’ve had the exact same issue and still managed to add my robovac to it (running HA on an old laptop, the “controller” is just another docker service running on that laptop)

im using the zbt-2 are you saying it runs its own webserver that i can access to onboard new devices? i just need to find the correct port? I know the threads/matter stuff runs in a separate app

I assumed it was through WiFi, I’m guessing you’re running it through Thread. Is it a standalone or is it connected to some device, maybe you can access it through the device it’s connected to? There might be a program for that.

I’ve got mine on WiFi (not through zbt-2), and it does indeed have a webserver that HA connects to

Well HA is able to talk to it, I assume you can access the rp machine and do the same to accomplish your goals.

I hope this info, helps, sorry I couldn’t help further

AFAIK the only or main difference between fdroid and play store one is the location service. With the play store one you can have like tracker.your_phone for real time location based stuff

There is a way for matter onboarding through HA with a bt (le) dongle on the server, and a matter border router (got 3 SMLight POE ones here). Somewhat pressed in time now but I think you can find the link.

are you confusing google home and home assistant?

smart light control. open front door via phone if i dont have my keys. potential automations like when cats use robot litterbox, run the roomba to pick up litter off the floor

it would be nice to degoogle, but still have some of life’s conveniences

honestly probably wouldnt be the end of the world to have a cheap android laying around just to onboard new devices. im just still disappointed
