I was working full time and raising my son. The stress of it broke me inside and the situation traumatized everyone in our household. We all tried to help out but taking care of someone with early onset Alzheimer’s is soul destroying and there’s really no help at all for families. Every possibility of help is obstructed with an impossible beurocratic maze of obstructions. It was a nightmare and I did feel resentment but at the same time my mom worked very hard in her life so she was absolutely a victim in our broken system. It’s going to get much much worse under all these medicade cuts. Unfortunately I couldn’t afford to take any time off because I live in an area that everyone in the house has to work overtime to make ends meet. It was a nightmare and it’s a very long sad story about a corrupt system, corrupt broken social workers and a broken society. It’s going to get so much worse under this administration I can’t even fathom the tragedy we’re about to face
I am so sorry you went through that. I’ve seen a couple acquaintances go through a similar journey being the caretaker of a parent with Alzheimer’s, and even with a support network it seems arduous and heartbreaking. Going through it alone with other dependents sounds harrowing.
