It’s cheaper to manipulate opinions than do the right thing. It’s a tale as old as time and part of the reason why capitalist “innovation” is almost entirely focused on overhyped PR bullshit instead of actually making a good product. Carney’s a hardcore capitalist, expecting otherwise is a fool’s errand.
Governments should tell their citizens what they’re doing. A lot of people don’t see things in the news but still need to know. Yes it can be misused, but that doesn’t make it inherently bad.
