The Supreme Court ruled Thursday against a broad federal ban on gun ownership by marijuana users, the latest in a line of firearm cases from a court that has expanded gun rights.

The justices decided unanimously in favor of Ali Danial Hemani, a Texas man who argued that a law barring guns from anyone who uses illegal drugs violates the Second Amendment.

Many towns, particularly towns in the Old West, operated like this.

Same thing with many cities in early modern Europe. In many places it’s been common upon entering a town or settlement that you have to check your weapons in at some location, like a sheriff’s office. Check your weapons in when you go into town, get them back when you leave.

The first law passed in Dodge City, Kansas was one prohibiting the carrying of guns inside city limits. So, I suppose that’s the law I would point to!
