He added that physical and psychological damages “inflicted on each individual of the Iranian nation in the 2nd and 3rd imposed wars, from child killings and war crimes in Minab and Lamerd to attacks on medical centres, is each a legal file that must be pursued in both domestic and international courts.”

He further stated that from the “murder” of newborns and the elderly to the assassination of his father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, “each is a file among thousands of major legal cases that must be earnestly pursued in domestic and international courts”.

“What is definite is that these criminals must be seized by the collar and brought to justice for their criminal deeds,” he asserted.

Never in my life could I have expected to agree with the Iranian government. But, on this specific issue? I do. There needs to be accountability for this.

This kind of attitude serves the interests of the status-quo. If the victims of empire are “just as bad” then you don’t really have to care. Also, “they would be doing similar shit had they the same power” is just projection. I imagine German citizens in 1941 saying the same kind of thing.

You are wrong, the state is not the real victim. It is citizens who are the real victims of both internal and external oppression. What a fucked situation to be in. I have friends from this country who had complicated feelings against the unjustified US/Israel invasion and that pretty much sums up how shitty it must be there internally to make someone feel like that.

I’m not talking about the state as victim. I sympathize with your friends, but they are absolutely naive (even if I understand the need for hope), to think that any of this will result in an improvement to their lives. Ending sanctions would result in immediate improvement, and a much higher likelihood of long-term loosening of strict state social controls. Instead they get bombs dropped on them, and a government that consolidates its existing domestic (and foreign) support, and is increasingly and for good reason concerned with internal threats.
