By a staggering coincidence, it is also 200 miles by car, dogsled, mule train, and pogo stick.

Maybe by dogsled or pogo stick, but mules would die of exposure and trying to go by car would require a 4x4 and blazing a new trail through the wilderness.
Distance by road is probably longer than by plane as roads need to follow terrain instead of going straight from point A to point B, hence why the author felt it necessary to specify.
There literally is no road from Chevak to Nome. In fact, there isn’t a road from Chevak to anywhere. The furthest you can get from the center of town by car is… the airport.

Before I dug into the article I assumed it would be Sarah Palin. Still kinda surprised it wasn’t.
But wasn’t she governor or something alike? And then president in the fight against the moon Nazis?
She was mayor of Wasilla first. Then she was governor. Then she was VP candidate. But yeah, she was a lunatic in all cases.
I have to admit the last part of my comment wasn’t based in reality, but in the great movie Iron Sky. And while it looked completely bonkers back then, it wouldn’t be that crazy right now.
