There will be some other way that they try to snake this in there. We just don’t see it yet. I feel like these decisions mean very little to these people other than that they are annoyed by the ways they are perceived. Once it’s nut-cutting time and they pull some kind of actual, meaningful sweep serious bullshit, it’ll just be a matter of time before they demand to resolve some emergency that they deliberately created in order to resolve the emergency. And then it sticks and what we have now is gone.

people (& their heirs ) who were forced to labor for nothing in return, to build the wealth of the USA are entitled to live here according to an amendment to the US constitution passed in the wake of the civil war, & generations later people are still pissed off about that???

Sure. There’s assholes still pissed they lost and had to give up their slaves.

But birthright citizenship today is more about not-actually-illegal people getting to stay here because they were here long enough to put down roots and start a family and those kids being vastly more American than the racist assholes.

The same assholes, in point of fact, that love hiring undocumented migrants for itinerant labor at rates that are in fact illegal because they’re greedy as fuck ghouls.

Another of the dissenting Justices, Samuel Alito, described the ruling as a “serious mistake” that “confers citizenship on virtually anyone who happens to be born in this country”, including those who come to the US with the explicit purpose of giving birth to a child and then returning to their country of origin.

Alito deciding he should legislate from the bench. Shocking.

And it still should not have come down to a 6-3 decision, or 5-4 as with the other decision on mail in ballots. We can’t rely on Amy Coney Barrett oscillating between lunacy and sanity as the deciding factor on such important decisions. The three dissenters on this case absolutely need to go.
