I still have the last breath of “modernly supported” with an nvidia 2080 that I’m planning to upgrade when something amd is on sale in my budget. So far there are a couple hiccups that are entirely nvidias fault but generally everything runs fine. As far as display and gaming support it’s been great. Everything just works on steam et al. Performance has been really good.
Heads up, pretty much all AMD gpu’s are more of a side grade for an RTX 2080. That being said, I made a similar jump from a RTX 3070ti to an RX 9070XT, so you won’t get any judgement from me
I wouldnt call over 100% performance uplift with a 9070XT a sidegrade(even with RT enabled). Every card above or newer than a 7800XT is a straight upgrade. Besides maybe a 9060 with 8GB VRAM but that could be said about any 8GB VRAM card.
