I’m always so extremely confused about the trope of the personal project having shit quality… Like, if I’m doing something for myself, that’s exactly the place where I wanna do something amazing, like literally all my private projects have much higher quality than my work ones - because in the work ones I’m forced to use stupid conventions, old tools, am not supposed to touch “legacy” code, etc etc etc

As such, since companies have their private code on GitHub, that’s where I would expect the shittiness to come from, not personal private projects.

My country has a social safety net, you don’t lose your home when you go unemployed. You just live in poverty instead, which for me, was preferable.

I dealt with it by becoming unemployed and living off of social security.

Would be cool to have the money to afford a car or motorcycle and their respective licenses/insurance/gas/etc.

And walking or bicycling 30+km? Some people don’t have close friends.

And when traveling, in any case, you’re still pretty exposed and have to go around lots of people.

I’m not saying you’re entirely wrong, there’s definitely ways to make it easier. But also you seem to just not be aware how different some people’s perceptions/feelings are.

I’m not sure what you’re arguing for here, you really can’t be arguing against online interactions being muuuuch easier, that seems to just be obvious. And some people can only handle these easiest kinds of interactions.

Even if you make other kinds interactions easier, that’s just not enough for some people. Then, internet interactions are amazing.

It doesn’t matter where you are. When you go to another place it’s the same, you are not at home instantly when you start to leave, you have to ride buses and trains where there is more people.

Not really, though… There’s all kinds of social rules to follow and if you’re hosting people, while potentially valid, if you at one point just say “alright, everyone out, I’ve had enough” you ruin it for all the people who wanted to hang out.

“No patches available” might’ve been true at time of writing (and might still be true for old kernels, idk), but kernel 7.0.4, released yesterday, is already fixed.

The main reason, that for some reason no one talked about yet, is that we developed and have effective and cheap contraceptives.

All other concerns are almost irrelevant. The truth is that we are very driven by immediate desires, and the “later” problem of having children goes out of the window when you’re horny and have the opportunity to have sex. If there’s no access to contraceptives, the choice between having sex and having children, or not having sex and no children, is almost always won by “having sex”.

But if you can have access to contraceptives, you do not have to chose between sex and no sex anymore. The reality is just that children have always been more inconvenient than not. I’m sure if at any point in history (or even in a perfectly utopian society) if contraceptives were developed and made available, and weren’t before, the same thing would happen.
