I can see why. The loading/travel screen art blew me away on release and still does now.
I don’t often get my hopes up for new games any more, but I kinda have for this.

Prince of Persia is a great example! Did Lemmings ever get a reboot? 😄
I kind of want to see what modern game developers can do with old C64 games like Parallax or Head Over Heels, or Amiga ones like Cannon Fodder or Sensible Soccer, but time has taught me 2 things:
I do like that GOG, etc, do their game preservation thing. Seeing games like Hexen, Rise of the Triad and Wing Commander running on modern CPUs is kinda fun, but often confirms point 2 above.

The evolution of modes of transportation, and the public’s reaction to change.

This sums up my thoughts on it, too.
Before reading it, I was ready to come back here expecting to say I’m glad someone’s thinking about older gamers and joke that I feel attacked (being grey and not feeling my age), but then I saw it went down the “but their juicy wallets” angle and… I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise.
They’re not even couching it in more palatable terms. So now I expect it will be just a patronising nostalgia IP reboot fest designed to extract as much cash as possible. And almost certainly subscription-based, because what company doesn’t these days.
Good luck with that: older people may have more disposable income, but they also have years of experience with marketing and FOMO tricks, along with the exploitation and butchering of franchises they once loved for a quick buck.

Reason number - oh, hell, I’ve lost count at this point - why anything mobile app store owners say about their service should be taken with a grain of salt.

Ever seen Stripes, the '80s action comedy film with Bill Murray and other notables?
There’s a scene in it that I think of every time this kind of story crops up, where you have over-equipped and under-educated people who are trained to think that everyone’s the enemy, and so prioritise their blood thirst and fear over everything else:
“All I know is I finally get to kill somebody!”
Their actions aren’t about right/wrong or just/unjust, but that they were let off the leash to do what they have been conditioned to do.
So you get people calling in hoaxes to police forces who send militarised forces to raid grannies, young children, whomever. It’s about the drama and lulz. Objectively horrifying.

On my desktop with a 2060 it’s zero issue, but on my 940M hybrid video laptop it’s been spicy at times.
Usually updates without an issue, and the most I need to do is delay the -settings package update until after the rest. (IIRC, see what I mean 😄).

What’s the point? They know customers are full of piss and wind, threatening blue murder while doing absolutely nothing beyond jaw flapping. (Same with gamers).
Amazon’s service model, for example, is to twiddle the knobs to just under the point where the majority ragequit: the sweet spot of maximum profit right now. Everyone else is copying it.
And the sweet spot moves - probably like boiling a frog. A major player does something many hate, but not everyone/enough and those people live with it. Then it becomes the new normal. Twiddle the knob. Rinse and repeat.

As long as they don’t enshittify the mobile apps and browser extensions, I’m neither surprised nor concerned. Vaultwarden exists.
And if they do ruin the client end, I expect third-party alternative clients, or a wholly new alternative, will appear soon enough.
(Yes, yes, “b-but KeePass!” folks… I’ve been there.)

I see! Thanks for taking the time to respond. It’s useful to have usage examples.

It is! (Or they are!)
Unfortunately (IMHO) they switched to requiring GPU, rather than CPU, processing some time back - for understandable reasons - and that makes the power consumption an issue.
No longer can you do screensaver/idle or shared use without your GPU pegging at 100% while the fans imitate jet engines (the last time I checked). 😟

Never let anyone tell you that you’re “having fun the wrong way”. 😄

Ah nice. Thanks for explaining. ☺️

WTF is Mixtape in this context? In my mind, it is (many years ago) tracks recorded from LPs, 45 singles or even CDs onto cassette…

Oh, like BOINC? I loved SETI@home and the protein folding projects for medical research!
Wait, you mean mandatory, secret distributed computing just to offload expense from an insatiable mega-conglomerate to its users products? GTFOooooooooo…
I hate this timeline.

Ahh, the “git gud” gamer hack also applies to sloperations? Good to know!

Orly? You don’t say.
The sooner UK PLC gets this into their thick, ideological skulls the better. 👀

I’ve been a (cautious, because not OSS and the inevitable enshittification timer) fan of Obsidian for years, and a data scientist friend switched from Notion to Logseq and raves about it. Is it that good?

This dystopia is sofa king boring.
For those who haven’t read it: it’s Stripe, their payment processor, behind this. Kickstarter isn’t doing a Tumblr; they’re just handling it like amateurs, rather than just yeeting those puritanical morons.
It does. Very well. Comes with the GE (Glorious Eggroll) version of Proton by default.
I use it for all non-Steam/-native games.
