Don’t get me wrong, I want to see $30/gallon of gas so that people finally start rioting against the orange doofus, or the discourse about public transportation and alternative energy sources shifts on our favor. At the same time, I don’t want to see people suffer over gas and consumables prices.
That’s the horror part. It’s part of the immersion.

I don’t mind a road tax. I prefer it over tolls. We already pay gas taxes for infrastructure. My issue is that it is a set price. I honestly think it should be based on the price and weight of your vehicle, and your annual mileage. A subcompact for your daily 20 minute commute is less damaging to the road than a truck traveling 70k miles per year is.
My other problem, no guarantees that it will be used for infrastructure.
Plus, smaller districts means more personal connection to the candidates. John Smith from fucks know where can talk smack about the nameless immigrant neighbor 3 towns over, and you may not care, but when little Jimmy from your home town talks smack about Jose who invited you to be his daughter’s godfather, like hell will you vote for him. Them are fighting words.
