  • Ya know, I’m somewhat convinced that leftist infighting isn’t really a thing irl. I’ve been to leftist socials and meetups and whatnot and we’re all talking about how much we agree. Even if we have differing ideologies, we all agree that the rise of fascism is the main threat. I think the fighting only really exists online where algorithms and anonymity get people frothing at the mouth. If the “Republicans” and “Democrats” of the future are anarchists and MLs, we’ve already made a ton of progress. In person, I think most leftists are most interested in getting to the point where our different ideologies are actually relevant.

Graham Platner is not perfect but he’s far from the violent Nazi you’re portraying him as. He represents the Democrats moving towards populism and I think that’s a good thing. He will probably advocate for a lot of reform during his campaign that he falls short on in office but he’s still an expansion of the Overton window leftward.

  • There’s an old saying “the US doesn’t lose wars, it loses interest.” I think that’s a bit generous but it highlights how the US is often in unpopular wars that the imperialist leadership wants but the people don’t. For Iran, this is a fight for survival of the regime. The gulf states would probably rather Trump not start the war but now that it is started, they probably want the US to actually wipe out the regime so Iran can’t build back with their toll money. The US is trying to add credibility to their threats to get concessions at the negotiating table. That probably won’t work against Iran who has nothing left to lose. Trump might actually not care too much about the midterms since he’s not up for reelection and he’s consolidated power enough that he doesn’t need a ton of congressional support. I think he’s overplaying his hand. I bet that before the midterms, you’ll see a “mission accomplished” banner and a withdrawal and threats against Europe of they don’t start to get their navys involved. Europe would probably rather continue to decarbonize than get tangled up in Iran. The gulf states will break with the US. Oil prices will stay high for everyone.

  • Did one get shot down? I remember one got hit but was able to make it back to a friendly base. They don’t have kill switches. That’s a myth. The maintenance spare parts are entirely controlled by the US so they could just cut you out of spare parts. With such a maintenance intensive jet, that would ground your fleet quickly with no need for the huge security risk of a killswitch. That’s more to your third point though and doesn’t have to do with performance.

Overall I think the F35 is a great fighter jet but plenty of countries should reject it purely to maintain greater controll of their own sovereignty. Also, with drones and loyal wingmen, air combat is evolving rapidly. It isn’t a great time to heavily invest in the best of the last generation.

  • Give the bike a test ride and make sure it fits you. The main problem will be if the bike is too big. Too small is better than too big.

The other consideration is condition. You want to make sure the shifting work through all the gears. There’s no visible rust. Make sure the drivetrain doesn’t squeak or creak. Make sure you can’t jiggle the cranks side to side. Make sure the brakes work. Make sure you can adjust the seat height. Seatpost can get seized in the frame sometimes.

If you don’t have to worry too much about hills, I recommend a single speed bike. There’s no gears to worry about and single speed chains are more robust.

  • Personally, I think influencer/hustle culture, parasocial relations, personal “brands” are a rot on society coming from the worst parts of capitalism. The influencer benefits from alienation and I think that’s wrong. I don’t think an OF model is any worse than any other influencer. I also think a lot of OF models didn’t feel they had many options when they started. But the really successful ones could get out or be less parasocial or something.
