  • I’m old enough to maybe have known about this. But I didn’t. Had absolutely no clue. The other person’s responses indicate they are advocating for people like me. Ignorance of a travesty doesn’t mean we are endorsing those atrocities. But clearly you expect clairvoyant level view that only matches what you already know. That’s not reality. That’s an unacceptable worldview that brings absolutely zero progress to stopping stupid shit like that. Go ahead and block the other user. But block me too please. I have no time for people who refuse to see that there is nuance in the world. My feed would be better of not dealing with self righteous assholes like yourself.

  • It’s ok bud. You misattributed the sunk cost fallacy. It happens. I’ve done it before too… No worries.

A sunk cost fallacy requires a continued investment in a lost cause. I financially have contributed no extra to Plex after my initial investment. I’ve nothing to lose now. No sunk cost. Is time or effort a sunk cost? Possibly? But I already invested that time and effort. My maintenance is also zero, same as my future financial investment. Switching to jellyfin increases my cost in time and effort that I already invested in Plex. Why bail unless necessary? It’s illogical.

The difference between unusable and inferior was never the cusp of this argument to begin with. The distinction of “unusable” vs “inferior” can clearly be acertained by the context of my first full reply. Interestingly enough, your reubuttle is a textbook use of the informal fallacy known as “moving the goalposts”

One again, it’s all good. Don’t worry. My point that Plex is still superior for my use case and I have the incentive to continue using it, still stands. Your use of the sunk cost falacy is disproven on the merit of, that’s not a real example of sunk cost, and also using additional fallacies to defend your position render your point invalid.

    I rest my case.

  • Dude your good. People are complicated. Legacies are messy. There’s nuance. Its easy to make a blanket statement that “all billionaires are evil”

Its more difficult to reflect and analyze a person or situation and think for yourself and find good, or bad, in something. Don’t apologize and don’t let Lemmy’s hard line lazy ass one liners make you second guess that.

If a time travelers footsteps on a butterfly in the Jurassic can change the sentient race in the future, I figure that a billionaire absent mindedly funding a water well can accidentally bring the next utopia. I’m not holding my breath, but good things tend to ripple outwards.

  • Its a good way to find out who wants an exorbitant payday for minimal effort.

Morality aside, it’s the same as the comedians that did the last tour. It is all about the money. They never agreed with the actions of these offensive regimes. Hell i don’t agree with the actions of my own. But I’m not getting paid ten million to look the other way so it’s easy to stand on the high road and judge.

I would love to say I myself am above that sort of influence, but I’m probably not. I could internally justify far less to be honest.

  • Live nation entertainment is the company formed after Ticketmaster merged with live nation. Concert promotion and ticket sales. So they have a long rap sheet of alleged but obvious price fixing and anti competitive lawsuits and allegations.

As for not knowing who kanye west is… Let’s just say he is a mentally unstable black hiphop artist and self confessed nazi, as per his last unmedicated manic episode and subsequent album. And media interviews. And vocal trump support. Its a roller coaster of a ride. Also he married Kim Kardashian and that’s not even the top ten of questionable decisions he’s made in the past decade.
