DDR5 runs two 32 bit channels per stick instead of one 64 bit channel like ddr4 but overall it is still 64 bit total per stick and needs two for 128 bit.

An important thing to consider with ddr5 that their method of testing didn’t consider is that a number of 8gb sticks are made in a way that gives a lot lower performance. So the 8gb sticks valve could source may not have had that big of a difference from a single 16gb stick.

In general auto updating resolves more security concerns for the general user than the risk it gives. For those that are going to manually check updates you can turn auto updates off.
