The legal claim is dubious, but I admire the commitment.

…okay? that is irrelevant to the conversation at hand

That was sorta the intended result here, to emphasize that to move away from cars without heavily sacrificing their QOL, most people need better public transportation and non-car options than their city is currently providing them. So the city needs to make changes to reduce dependency.

I just looked at a map to confirm cause I struggled to believe this and damn, you were NOT kidding. Heading east out of the city into the mountains there are 2 roads, and absolutely nothing else.

I prefer my autocrats in .txt
but seriously why are we censoring “pedophile” here?

The LFI aren’t tankies as a group, but individually, this one seems to be.

Coming to a European firm near you!
AI detectors are categorically useless, and should not even be referenced, let alone relied upon, to tell if something is AI. Treat them with the same level of skepticism you would a lie detector, ie complete fucking quackery. (I can explain this in depth if you’d like, but the long and short is that if an AI were capable of differentiating it’s own work from a human’s without a watermark, it would also be able to improve it’s human mimicry to exactly that same standard it’s detecting, thus destroying that capability)
The artist does have a consistent style and if you follow their page back you can see their work and growth detailed like any other actual artist, including in-progress pieces. This isn’t AI, the artist’s style has simply been stolen and copied by AIs, and now you’re faulting the artist for their own work being effectively stolen en mass.

There’s a whole ass state over there named after a slave owner

This had a plausible basis in reality prior to Trump 2.0. That basis is now a burning pile of toxic sludge left in a trash heap somewhere in the central pacific. If Trump is actively trying to undermine and shatter the existing NATO, why tf would he or anyone be interested in a new one in the east with the US anytime prior to a complete and total political restructuring of the US?

They may like to see the Iranian leadership weakened, but all of them are more concerned about a scenario of chaos and uncertainty and the possibility of more radical elements coming to power there,” Anna Jacobs Khalaf, a Gulf analyst and non-resident fellow at the Arab Gulf States Institute, told Al Jazeera last month.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely opposed to a war in Iran for no fucking reason, in large part because I give a shit about the well being of the Iranian people and want to see them make their own way out of authoritarian theocracy without western intervention. But I’m not exactly sure what more radical group could possibly come to power there than the Ayatollah. Is ISIS-K a serious enough political entity that it could end up wielding any actual power in the aftermath? Cause I don’t see anyone else who could be much more radical (while maintaining something resembling a state) than what they’ve already got.

I think that was entirely separate from the napalm girl, but the fact that over 50 years on from the fact we can still think of so many such cases in common memory that we’re mixing them up is telling.

He does seem at least willing to cooperate with the EU and not block things like this unless it’s actually, genuinely in Hungary’s interest from a traditional conservative POV. Not great, but sane, at the very least.

In India I’m mostly referring to the ongoing descent into theocratic authoritarianism and hindu-nationalism. Historically I agree, they’ve done pretty well for themselves given where they started, but it’s right this moment that they’re veering in a decidedly unpleasant and less grounded direction.
Idk how much the French cultural influence can really be attributed to the maintenance of relative sanity in Canada, but it seems like a sorta far-fetched theory to me. France is going a pretty questionable direction right now too, with a near majority of the country embracing an ethnonationalist, barely-hiding-the-nazism far right party, and that’s a pretty unsurprising reflection of the same historical factors as influence English speaking nations too. Quebec isn’t exactly a bastion of cultural stability in the last few decades either, but I guess you’re right that it’s not quite on the level of the anglosphere.

The answer is yes. Britain has some hope in the Greens but that’s about it, Canada only looks good because it’s on top of an actively exploding train wreck, Ireland is sorta halfway sane but corrupt as ever, South Africa is a mess and has been its entire existence, NZ apparently wasn’t happy with how good of a job Jacinda was doing so now they’re back to quietly fucking things up, and everyone else who speaks it secondarily is going off the deep end in their own unique ways (see: India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt, Netherlands, etc).
Plenty of smaller, subject specific and/or niche subs are still great. But you need to do some hunting for them.
I left because the admins beat those places into submission at every opportunity.

Oh that’s interesting, thank you. I’d never heard of those before.

Isn’t the Japanese government currently on track to completely block the import of any and all foreign labor?
Sooooooo…when are Waymo execs going to prison for evading a police officer?
