Off-peak electricity rate in my area is around $0.14/kWh. One full charge is about 14 kWh, $1.96. This can go about 30mi max, for $0.065/mi.
My 300cc bike getting 60 mpg at a cost of $4.20/gal comes out to $0.07/mi.
Did I miss something?

A 300cc motorcycle

My wife’s plug-in hybrid charging (at home) costs the same as fuel for an ICE vehicle that gets 60mpg running 87 octane. Electricity is cheaper, but it’s also not free.

You must not be thinking about the kids enough.
Anyway jacking my cock

“Cellar boxing” was a widely discussed topic in GME circles for a while. Gotta admit I never expected it from Cohen though.

My laptop is for super basic needs (i.e. not modern gaming), and I struggle to find ways to run out of its 8GB of RAM without outright fabricating the conditions to make it happen. Even when I play something like Surroundead, I’m short on graphical horsepower and still have RAM to spare.
One major detail is that I’m not using Windows.
My work machine, however, is on Win11 and only has 16 GB. And unless I turn off OneDrive, Teams and Outlook from autostarting, it will use nearly 12 GB to sit idle. It’s pretty useless.

While very true for me, the bastards of Xubuntu and Kubuntu got me hooked and over time I learned why what you said is true. The journey is worth enjoying, however one wishes to experience it

I can’t speak for them, but they did start the Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) project as a means to escape total reliance on Ubuntu and their unsavory decisions. It does seem inevitable that every distro will eventually have some amount of AI generated code, if they don’t already.

If there is a real problem that needs to be solved, then I understand a need for some action. I find often that insufficient details or reasoning are given for a change that costs us money (and often pushes us off devices which afforded us greater freedom), which makes me think there is fuckery afoot.

I bought it as a generic GSM phone after checking that several of the 4G bands were ones that AT&T used. I don’t recall it being marketed as a “US” or “international” version like I had seen in the past. I had not considered a change in 4G band usage, but I would certainly respect that a whole lot more than the arbitrary troll toll it very much looks like, and it would be nice if they explained that if that was indeed the case.

Here in the US, my carrier started forcing an “approved devices” list, supposedly for “quality of service” as they phased out 3G. My phone at the time worked fine on 4G for over a year, but suddenly one day it no longer worked once they started enforcing this. I suspect the carrier wanted to collect a troll toll from phone manufacturers to allow them the privilege to sell a phone to their customers, and since my phone (OnePlus 5T) was a few generations behind the latest, it seems like it didn’t make sense for OnePlus to pay a fee for an old phone that they didn’t make or sell anymore.
So anyway fuck AT&T

You’re not wrong, but it’s important to point out how overpriced ALL new cars are too. Within the existing pool of overpriced options, it is fairly “cheap”.
Personally I am willing to pay more specifically to avoid the surveillance nightmare that is every new vehicle, and I value simplicity over farkles, so I’m exactly Slate’s target audience. I do worry whether there are enough luddites like me to help them succeed though.
Yep, I agree with your point. EVs have some desirable traits IMO, but some people seem to think they will never need expensive repairs and that their fuel is free.
