  • simple update and sleep should not result in a black screen on any OS IMO

That’s the thing. Different distros handle it in different ways. Some have the option to do offline updates so it will not actually install the update until after reboot so there is minimal risk of something interfering. That’s why often the recommendation is to try and find one that is more stable if that is what you value more.

  • The reason they are doing that is because the capitalists have painted themselves in a corner. Wealth inequality is growing wider and wider to where it is hard for the working class to continue to ignore. People are upset and need scapegoats. You can only blame immigrants for so much. So they promise to come in and “disrupt” the government’s bureaucracy. Of course the real reason to do that is not for the benefit of the working class, it is to benefit Trump and the wealthy that inflate his ego.

But you are right that they have forgotten that people get upset when the trail of corruption leads straight to them instead of being obfuscated in bureaucracy.

I am using the Librem 5. I don’t do anything all that demanding so it is okay for me. Basically light web browsing, Signal messages, some occasional SMS/MMS and calls. I was one of the pre-orders so I saw all the drama unfold with delays and denying refunds, but I received my device and have been daily driving it for 3 years now. I like it overall and don’t plan to go back to dailying ios or android.

Would I recommend Purism Librem 5 to others? I dunno actually. Despite the refunds fiasco, Purism made every effort to deliver a phone to everyone who ordered one. My phone works fine, but it is noticeably slower than most normie phones. There are more options out there like the FLX1, but I have no experience using it so I can’t speak to it. I would say, it’s worth a shot getting the FLX1 for the slightly beefier hardware. Just be sure to temper your expectations and take your time testing things out.

  • I dropped my niece off at her elementary school the other day. Being newer to the process I parked the car instead of the whole drive thru setup they have in the USA. I saw all the huge SUVs and trucks and I knew I had to walk with her the mere 25 ft (7m?) because they would not see her. Sure enough, one of them was about to take off and braked hard when they realized I was there, but my niece got scared. I’m sure the driver never knew she was even there.
