Why would they want a slowdown while simultaneously getting ready for an IPO?

Because for one, these things can’t and won’t do so much more than be junior software engineers because a complete lack of understanding of how the human mind does not inhabit the body or pilot the body, but the mind separated from the body loses wholeness. That’s going to blow up these IPOs if they can’t actually deliver, so the slowdown is the industry all shaking hands and saying “we need more time for this charade to hold up” when actually none of them will slow down, they’ll just be trying to hide how little forward progress there is to be made left with these kind of models and without moving to something even more complex. They need the con to last as long as possible in hopes of delivering something useful at all to justify the massive increase in surveillance capitalism that citizens obviously do not want. Their IPO will crash if they get found out to be frauds right after going public, and they aren’t satisfied enough with a quick pump and dump, they all want to be the next Musk. So they need a global slowdown to justify how things have actually hit a wall in terms of making LLMs useful to every day people.

On reddit if a post was deleted I could still interact with the thread, even if the content of the post itself was gone.

So it was a bit more elegant, imho, as it allows continued discussion and being able to link to the thread without it being completely nuked.

I also think that set expectations for how people expected it to work here, where the post contents and author would be nuked but the thread could still be accessed by hotlink.

These would have to be added to Lemmy development, because currently I can delete a post of my own on a community on another instance and there isn’t a technical way to prevent it. Reporting and banning for behavior is tricky too unless you manage to remember the username of who posted it.

So, that’s an uphill battle at the development level and the moderation level.

How is it easier to delete a post every time than to set preferences to not be emailed just once, then you never have to again?

Also my instance disabled downvoting so I don’t do that.

It doesn’t make sense, either. There’s no rational reason to delete a thread after the question has been answered.

Even if it wasn’t actually a person but was an AI agent asking questions so it can scrape the data from the answers, there’s no real utility in deleting the posts after receiving responses. It just seems so weird.

For sure, my focus is on the the people actually crafting the policy. Sure the idiotic christian voters vote these people in, but those idiotic christian voters often actually support things like universal healthcare if you describe it without using the words “universal healthcare.” They vote the politicians in for entirely different reasons and then the politicians just do what they were gonna do anyway and screw everyone over while making themselves rich.

I mean that’s fair to say about a lot of christians, but Trump literally learned from his father and family that sickness and frailness is weakness that should be exploited. He took all he learned and exploited his sick father before his death, just like he was taught to. Trump is not some christian, he does not believe in a just world, those who surround him ascribe to the same mafia politics, even if they hide it behind faux-christianity. The people actually running this government and making these decisions aren’t actually christians, they don’t believe in anything, they’re more like Ayn Rand than anyone.

The meds are so insanely expensive that even working, the jobs I am qualified for do not provide good enough insurance to cover enough of them for me to not be going deeply into debt.

My treatment is going well, I’m about a year out from being considered safe to wean me off the meds, which will take another year.

So I need a year and a half after this kicks in to make it all the way through, financially.

This is a purposeful benefits cliff, and it already was a benefits cliff. It is literally financially unsound for me to work if I will die because I can’t afford the medications.

The goal is absolutely to kill people because these people truly believe in Darwinism even if they claim to be religious and reject it. They think only the strong survive and they’re just culling the weak who can’t hack it in society anyway. Valid fear especially considering Asahi Linux is being developed for the M-series chips from Apple and this laptop is technically an A-series chip that they usually use in their phones. There’s no telling on if or when there could be even baseline Linux support for it!

Yes, and there’s clearly been a market for more affordable Apple products for a long time.

I run all Linux at home, but I an enthused about Apple silicon and I like the fact that macOS is certified UNIX, making a lot of aspects of working with it more similar to Linux than working with Windows.

I’m poor, but I plan on saving up and eventually getting one just so I have a functional modern Apple device for once in my life. (Other than when I was 12 and my parents bought a 66mhz PowerPC Macintosh)
