Also - when you don’t need to worry about things like cooking, cleaning, driving, etc…, you’ve got a shit ton more time in the day that you can put towards ‘work’ if you want!
Updated mine, but, realistically, I don’t think most of us are directly exposing our VaultWarden instances to the internet … I can’t imagine I’m all that weird by only exposing it over VPN for remote use.
Execs know teachers are doing it because of internal drive to teach and not for the pay and they take advantage of it in absolutely every way they can.
If teachers want useful posters on the wall, gotta pay for it. If teachers want students to not have to share a worksheet 3:1, teachers will pay for it. It’s incredible not only how much they do for free, but how much they pay out of pocket for the “privilege”
For a camera I’ve got that I don’t care too much about, I had to give it a ~50KB network connection out and then it gets its handshake, but, doesn’t have a good enough connection to actually upload video and then all the local features stay working. Eventually, I’ll replace it, but, it’s monitoring a place that I don’t care about too much, so, it’s low on the priority list.
Unfortunately, a light doesn’t need much in the way of a connection to begin with, but, if it needs some kind of handshake, maybe you can watch the traffic with Wireshark and whitelist that specific traffic or see if someone else has done the work for it (a quick search didn’t show anything for me, but, I haven’t gone in depth or anything)
