All my family members in my house have chronic illnesses, so any given day I may be taking them to scheduled appointments, the ER, or massaging my wife’s legs as she has severe neuropathy that causes her intense pain but my massage helps temporarily alleviate it. I’m also the sole working person in the family and the only one who can drive(until next month when my youngest gets his license!) most days I don’t get to pick my schedule, I might have all of 1 hour not consumed by the needs of the family on any given day and I must always be ready for my plans to be destroyed by an emergent event. I wish I could ask the question you pose.

I would certainly say working from home, I am physically disabled and my whole family is as well in a variety of ways. If it wasn’t for their flexibility I wouldn’t have the job I have. 150k salary with 10k or so bonuses, unlimited PTO. Software Development in fintech can be nice if you work for the right company(the more privately held the better)

Yeah definitely an old ass series with exception of DNF, which honestly should’ve probably been buried alongside ET in the desert. I remember being hyped for DNF for the first 5 years of development, before I just completely gave up on it coming out.

My case I got to serve on was for 2 counts of assault in a peace officer for a man in jail who allegedly assaulted 2 police officers in a Short length of time. The first of the two counts the state had a bunch of evidence for, but the other one the only evidence they really had was a picture of the officer taken like a week ago from the time the alleged altercation happened. The picture looked like a dude just cut himself shaving.

So we deliberated very quickly and found the defendant guilty for the first count and not guilty for the second. I feel like the DA had tried to hit this guy unfairly with the second case as the case was as almost entirely baseless, and might have worked if the jury had been more racist or less observant rooting out the facts. I feel like Justice was served that day.

I’m financially stable and any gifts or material goods I bought specifically for them are their property, now they could sometimes lose the right to use the item as punishment, but I find the practice of faux ownership and parental mandate disgusting. I imagine those even more well off would probably forget they even bought the thing for their kid, as the kid probably gets a solid allowance anyway.

Think I’d have gone with saving my grandmother from cancer when my dad was 4, hopefully if they caught it early enough she would’ve lived and my grandfather wouldn’t become a twisted abusive man and my dad could’ve had a normal upbringing. Maybe then he would be reasonable enough to stay in contact with.

I heard turning off Samsung live tv and removing the app helps the performance tremendously, I have yet to try it as my wife for some reason is willing to tolerate a menu that takes over a minute to navigate one click at a time so she can keep the live tv feature, it is unusable to me

Yeah it was pretty crazy I’ve heard ram tends to go obsolete before it dies, but I do have a potential root cause, I did notice after hooking up the new motherboard that the side and back case fans weren’t plugged in, they were routed through a cheap case rgb controller board which must’ve fallen off the tape in the back side of the case, so I’m guessing thermals took them out and 1 just happened to survive(likely the one furthest from the CPU)

I agree with you on COPS was just one of the cartoons in my brain as I was thinking of things I watched a bit of as a kid.

Mask was like a mix of GI Joe and Transformers I think, transforming vehicles but with a focus on the driver as well. I haven’t watched it in ages, I’ll have to see if I can source it.

Gobots could be an interesting one, knockoff transformers but only had like a season, I recall liking the villainous motorcycle as a kid.

Another one I’m going to have to look up is centurions, I enjoyed them when I was 4, but they as a show didn’t last long and I have almost forgotten everything about it.

so this week I was getting ready for my workday when my Son tells me CraftyController is inaccessible, so I tried to SSH into the box that the service is pinned to… nada, dead. tried to power cycle it, nada.

now this node was a B450M-A mobo Ryzen 7 2700X platform with some hodgepodge scrap RAM I’ve had running in it(RAM birthday was 2019). I hooked it up to a mini monitor and a keyboard, but it didn’t post at all, so just a blue screen of no signal. unfortunately the B450M-A mobo didn’t feature POST debug lights, nor did it use QLED, it apparently relied on PC Speaker, and my machine wasn’t telling any tales. so since I had no real idea as to the root cause and after reseating the RAM and the GPU and fiddling with it got me nowhere, I got my partner to approve the outspend for replacement of the motherboard so that I could have actual Debug indicators.

Thursday the ROG B550-F Gaming WIFI II mobo arrived, as did the Ryzen 9 5900XT and the Nautilus 360RS cooler. I spent the evening assembling the mobo and CPU and the GPU, the RAM, and all the related wiring. figured I would do the Cooler the next day. Yesterday I got the cooler in place with some serious hardware acrobatics. I then fired it up and Yellow LED. DRAM issue, so I unseated all of the RAM, plugging in one of the hodgepodge sets(I had 4x8GB ram sticks) neither set worked, went to just trying a single stick. of the 4 sticks only 1 was able to get past the Yellow LED and into completed POST.

So the RAM was shot and I’m not going to run containers on a machine with only 8 GB of ram. so I ordered up some Vengeance LPX 2x16G sticks and they arrived this morning! I just finished slotting them and then wrestling with Gentoo’s understanding of where all the hardware was. it was a lot of fiddling with the gentoo kernel config, and installing the nvidia drivers, but after all of that was done, the system booted up successfully! I’ve now got it back in its residence connected up to the UPS power, about to shunt docker containers back to the newly improved machine with 2x the CPU capacity.

Was a wild ride, but the cool part of it was when the system shat itself it was part of a 3 node Docker Swarm and I had recently migrated to a NAS for persistence of my container data. though the other 2 nodes aren’t as overbuilt as this thing, so I did have to do some memory wrangling and disabling my lower priority services in order to restore service, but I was able to ensure all necessary services were able to run during the outage, and I got some learning in regards to a couple of the services that didn’t port as cleanly as I would’ve liked. all in all fun times in system administration! lol.

Exactly I had a habit back in the day of walking around in a pretty nice suit and I would easily jump into a hackysack circle, baffling some, but a loose cut suit makes maneuvering easy

This is interesting as every call center I have worked or been involved with has always had metrics of hold times and a whole group of managers doing call forecasting and manipulating schedules to ensure a target of average hold times, average handle times, and average not ready states for their workers. I feel like HP is taking heat for something that every single company is guilty of. All companies want to encourage self-service, to the point of eliminating tools for agents to assist the customer, forcing them to refer the customer back to the app or website to complete transactions. Callcenter workers are a constant cost center and companies are trying anything to avoid paying.

Anything that had that email would’ve been from my teens to early 20’s since I ended up with a Gmail account in like the 3rd wave of beta invites. That was my grown up email, and so anything of value is there while the Hotmail only gets spam and ms updates. But can definitely appreciate sticking with 1 account, since I’ve not swapped emails since my early 20’s for the same reason you describe.

I’m with you there. I still have my cringe edgy 1998 Hotmail login that has morphed into the credentials for all my Microslop dealings, I never use it for mail, but I have unfortunately had to give it to people professionally during some azure related training and onsite sales pitches.
