I’m definitely not against charging as a concept - it’s just in my current circumstances it’s not viable. Without doxxing myself, the current college I am in does not have charging at any of their parking garages or at the dorms.
It’s time to Escape From Reality! :3

Wendover covered the issue in this video he made 5 years ago (so maybe it got solved), but you could not drive from Denver, CO to Dallas, TX from either direction. The maximum range of cars on the market combined with the lack of changing stations along the way meant it was impossible without getting stranded in the middle.

Hopefully it improves as time goes on - from what I can gather EVs in the US mainly make sense if you’re a homeowner or live in an apartment that has a charging station on site.
(I wouldn’t be able to own one and reliably maintain charge right now as a college student, for example)

Don’t forget the infrastructure! The average American is within 5 minutes of a gas station, but charging stations are very few and far between (you can’t even cross certain states with one charge because of the gap).
Free accounts get removed after an inactivity period, but paid accounts remain (Relevant FAQ). You can also check on other providers’ policies like Proton to see how they handle things if you’d prefer them instead.
In my experience I haven’t had any issues even after changing payment methods.
(Also, as for hosting stuff, MEGA is encrypted and gives you 20GB off the bat without a google account requirement)
I get what you’re saying, but paying 8 USD annually for a Tuta mail account doesn’t seem unreasonable in my eyes considering that’s just the costs of services rendered (no bullshit, but not free).
There’s a lot of great, free software that allows you to have a functional life on the internet without any of those issues, but if you’re logging in to a mail server maintained by anyone, you pay with your money or your data.
I have two things I pay annually (and nothing else): My email provider, and for my domain registrar for my self hosting needs. Less than 20 USD a year combined.
Edit: three, forgot to include mullvad. Still under 20 USD tho total.

Here’s the direct home link, although it’s built into the list on my Waterfox and IronWolf installs.

GOG isn’t shitty, but it needs to provide better “at purchase” service to be more visible and seamless like steam, though.
(Although yeah the DRM issue does drive devs away, although notably steam doesn’t require DRM. Check any Toby Fox or Klei game.)

The options are there, though. It is a restriction of knowledge rather than a walled platform sense.
I am certain that people who can install mods from Nexus for Bethesda games/Cyberpunk 2077 have the technical ability to install games from GOG, Epic, or other sources (just look at the Java Minecraft and Vintage Story communities).

The vast majority of console owners don’t understand how to install modded software or cracked games. PC players don’t have to pay for online gaming either.
Then self host your own email. If you are not the customer, you are the product, and that applies to digital infrastructure. No credible VPS or domain registrar will let you have amazing service for free without hidden costs either.

This is regarding the porn games, chucklenuts. They already removed Hatred and the like.

It’s built in the filters list, under Annoyances>Huge AI Blocklist. There’s two different ones (the larger “nuclear variant” might slow down search a bit).

Combo it with Ublock Origin and use their AI site blocklist.

A good chunk of the restrictions for what guns you can own are quite nonsensical. Especially in an age when anyone can produce a semi-auto pistol caliber carbine at home for <$200 (FGC-9), I shouldn’t have to spend twice as much to get something with worse ergonomics (since pistol grips and thumbhole stocks are banned for commercial weapons), can only have 10 round magazines, and is subject to more restrictions if that magazine is detachable.
I don’t have many issues with the requirements for safety.

Ah. When I was reading it on calgov it seemed like it would be more in depth. I guess it does make more sense for a CCW since a person will be carrying it on their person more often.
I do want to train and learn best practices if/when I own a gun though. Don’t want to be “that guy” when out hunting or at a range.

On that note - I know California gets a lot of deserved flak for its gun laws, but do you think the mandatory training and safety certification before purchase is a good idea for more states to adopt? (After you complete the training you get a renewable 5 year license to buy guns within)

We don’t have walkable cities, and in rural areas infrastructure may be so underwhelming that shooting stuff might be the best you can hope for excitement.
(Fortunately it’s usually in a non harmful way like target shooting or plinking).
3D video did serve as a legitimate stepping stone for things like Virtual Reality headsets and heads up displays for vehicles, so I don’t think it was a total waste.
The rest of the buzzwords are relatively obscure in the grand scheme of progress though (unless by The Cloud you mean VPS services/storage solutions, which are almost ubiquitous)
