

I’d remind them that, in the US, most senior citizens go through all their savings until they have almost nothing and the government can sometimes help them survive until they die or other family helps pay for their end of life care. Even if someone seems well off doesn’t mean they will be able to support anyone else past their end of life. The US economy is set up to drain people’s money. Your child will still likely need to work, especially if they want government assistance in their older years themselves (which they will need if they aren’t planning on being able to make enough to support themselves).
