Go for it. Give it a fair time, its a new system, some things may feel weird, but If you are willing to learn you will soon find it to be fine. Personally I would recommend some basic distro like fedora or linux mint. I would stay away from immutable systems like bazzite because I feel like with these systems people are limiting themselves too much (especially if you want to run a bunch of pirated content and stuff). The best course of action, try a few distros with live cd (i mean flash drive) to see what catches your eyes and if basic things work and only after that install your first system.

I think its worth it. And even if there are people on google, the more people join privacy-friendly providers the less the issue happens. After I joined proton half of my family or friends joined too. Its a long game but worth it. Also I prefer Proton over tuta because tuta developed their own encryption while Proton uses PGP which is more universal.

  • For me the transition from windows to gnome also was somewhat smooth, not it was also because when I didn’t know how to so something I just searched for “how to…” And found out. This surprised me in the ltt video, if they searched how to format flash to fat32 in Disks they would easily know that they need to add the partition, but instead of web searched they were jumping here and there chaoticaly. And its weird they are my generation and my generation knows how to google… Or maybe they are already brainwashed by using llms?

Do you think a user that never used macOS or windows would manage to use them from minute zero? I can answer that for you. No. Users have habits that comes from their day to day tasks. And that applies especially to such things that we use for hours every day. So a livelong user of macOS would struggle with windows in the same way livelong windows user would struggle with Linux. And btw young generations hooked on phones are not capable to use computer with any OS from minute zero. Seriously, its like watching granpas and grandmas.

Try Lumo from proton if you want to stay private. I was (am) reluctant too, but i found out it can be useful if I am writing something more official, NOT to let it do it for me, but the sentences I am not sure about, it can tell me if they are fine and explain why (and you can verify with easy search because you know now what you are looking for). It’s especially helpful with my non native languages. Otherwise i did not yet find any other useful use case and I refuse to use it for dev.
