  • The one silver lining I guess is that when people say “you really should read the book” with PKD stories they end up being so different that they really feal like a different story. They tend to not have the Green Lantern Effect where the movie ruins the original story for you.

It always bugs me when they make one of his books into a movie because there never is a reason to cut the important parts out. I would understand if the books were long, or had concepts that are too difficult to bring to the screen. Instead its cut because no one wants movies you have to think about.

  • I’ve always thought how ridiculously on the nose it was for her to star in a TV show where she was breaking out of a religious cult…and that she was in one IRL. Especially that her IRL cult has been linked to murders, silencing witnesses, and a miriad of other illegal acts. She just swapped roles apparently.

  • The honey pot lists a dozen randomly generated links that all point back to the honeypot. Then I have a script that runs nightly and if your IP clicked on a honeypot 100 or more times in a day the IP gets blocked. That way people can stumble on it and not get banned.

Looking at the logs I easily get tens of thousands of hits daily by dozens of bots. A few business sites, personal page, hobby page, and my GitHub replacement. Not really a big target. But still a lot of bot traffic.

  • What the mob was doing was keeping all the different parties oblivious of what each other were doing. If you ever hear “the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing” that is where it comes from. What RICO did was say as a group you all committed a crime. You can’t curtail the law by having 10 people do 10 different steps and then say they are all innocent as no one individual did it all.

Those laws got stronger as criminals got smarter. To the point where using an unsuspecting 3rd party could implicate the 3rd party. If I wrote a letter to a hit man and then put that letter in another letter and sent it to you saying “can you please mail this for me but don’t open it” you and I and the hitman could all be charged with the killing. They can make the case you should have recognized this was shady and not helped.

  • After MS started down the AI path I updated all my licensing for what I hosted there excluding it from all AI training. Yeah I know they won’t listen but if we ever have a tech based class action lawsuit I am ready.

I then archieved all my projects posting a link to my self hosted git solution. The new solution again constantly states AI has no business here.

Last step was setting the guards and traps. I have a robots.txt file setup and my nginx is configured to send 444 to all requests who report as bots. All methods that they should obey. But if they don’t every page I host has an invisible link to a cgi script that creates an infinite loop of links. The bot falls down this rabit hole and I eventually ban their IP.

  • What I have noticed thispast year is that higher ups aren’t really understanding the total cost of AI solutions. They go use sites to have conversations with the most powerful LLMs not realizing that your company is not going to afford that level of tech. Your current IT infrastucture can’t add a few dozen high power/high cost systems to train the model for your business’s nuance. It is never a build it and forget it problem.

Additionally there is a skill of humans being easily retrained for other tasks. Creating a Jack of All Trades will net you a great workforce with people filling roles when you have medical leave, turnover and business pivots. AI isn’t general enough to make this change without major redesign.

The only “problem” with this amazing skill is that companies no longer run on the idea of employee retention. You get promoted by jumping ship. Working harder doesn’t make the headway in a company like it used to 25+ years ago.

  • Yeah I think we all get the concept. The issue comes down to time and resources. My “free time” starts around 1AM after all my adulting responsabilities are done. At that point a movie or a book and sleep is all I have time for. Next week is a mild week with 5 days of kids activities, 2 birthday parties, and hopefully finding time to mow the lawn.
