When I created a new account last year, I could use an alias at first. But then I couldn’t invite people to projects because of some security concerns because of the alias. In the end, after talking to their tech support, I used a real email address. Really annoying :(
I use Ente for pictures in the cloud. The app is really nice and I trust them. It’s also Foss. They also have a file storage, 2fa and a few other apps now. https://ente.com/
