  • There are a LOT of people who simply don’t bother to check the output of Claude (or <LLM_OF_CHOICE>).

Source: I’m dealing with an absolute firehose of vibe coded PRs from our contractors right now. I swear to god I’m just conversing with their Claude processes. They are very clearly not only not checking their output, but also just responding to PR comments with Claude. I’m getting very close to just making PR comments as if I was directly addressing my own local Claude process, including feedback loops and doc cross checks and so on, which they’re clearly not bothering with. They’re not even vibe coding well.

  • As a unitedstatesian, I gotta say I disagree with the benefit of the doubt you’re providing here.

Yes, there are outliers (I consider myself one of them), but there is a strong 30%-ish incredibly regressive and bigoted core demographic here, and it tends to be super prevalent in the Bible Belt and many of the flyover states - locations that correlate with shuttered, dogmatic thinking, and populations that tend to have no desire to go further than a few dozen miles from their hometown. And, yes, a lot of this is exacerbated by a concerted effort by conservative politicians and the GOP to hollow out public services - specifically including education - and I absolutely do think that the root cause needs to be addressed. But the problem is that at this point, it’s become a vicious, self-reinforcing feedback loop, and the symptom is now being folded in as a part of the cause. A lot of people ARE cheering him on. It’s absolutely fucking reprehensible, and I am horrified that that category of person are countrymen of mine.

As to the thoughts of the average American: again, yes, outliers exist, but the vast majority of people here just keep their head down and don’t do anything out of incuriousity, ignorance, misguided (and imo caustic) individualism, exhaustion, or outright greed (the “fuck you, I got mine” mentality). Community-oriented attitudes tend to be much stronger in urban areas, but there’s a very real sense of living under an occupation - which it extremely intentional under this regime. Not to mention, the whole narrative of American Exceptionalism is simply categorical bullshit, and a vanishingly small fraction of our populace is able to admit - let alone understand - that point.

Genuinely, I have never felt more politically or ideologically alienated from my birth country in my life.
