Picaridin works wonderfully well at repelling ticks for when it’s too hot out for permethrin pants. Though mosquitoes only care a bit if you’ve got repellent on, they’ll still come after you no matter what you’re wearing. In my experience

100% Orange Juice and those types of games. It’s not super popular but also people love it. Personally I couldn’t think of a more boring type of game, even with friends there’s boardgames I’d rather play.

One is none, and two is not enough. The more places your data is, the harder it is to lose.

Gaming has gotten so huge that investors want to target the most lucrative segments of their market. It’s not that you can’t make money with games. It’s that exploiting addiction is better at wealth extraction.

Trail running makes running so much better, but also I find an hour and a half on the treadmill way easier than an hour and a half on the stationary bike.

Using a browser is definitely a no go for me. Lots of people are asking, why not just use vim instead of obsidian? Linking is important, I’ve been meaning to try neorg, I’ll get there eventually. To me writing the notes is secondary to finding, exploring, and reading the notes. I find vim is better writing things than exploring things, probably just a skill issue but I don’t really care.
Damn, this picture has been around so long the kid in the picture looked a lot older when I first saw it.
I would not have guessed I would have quit drinking in my 20s, pretty sound financial decision.

Isn’t DC already super humid all the time anyway?

I’m not a security guy, what is the problem that this is supposed to be fixing? Like I guess you wouldn’t be able to use a virtuallised os to visit your banking website? Like I understand if you work for a bank you should only be able to access some things from specific computers, but normal people?

That’s what I was thinking, a probe would gather some information. Maybe we would send a probe of our own in their direction.

I heard in the original post that these peaches suck and that’s why del monte is having problems. I’m all for saving trees, but if we’re going to replace them with trees people want I’m all for that.

I actually get a lot of use out of my tablet, mostly for reading manga and comics. Sometimes for books too

The gastric bypass helped lose weight fast, she kept it off for a while. I still don’t think she eats that much. Alcoholism is a beast of it’s own, I think she got disulfiram out of rehab to help.

What I think some people ignore is that “food drive” is a thing. When I get hungry, and I know there’s food around, there’s no stopping me from eating. It’s most strong following days of intense exercise for me, but I know other have it worse than me.
There’s other reasons to, just like how we need to ask why someone is doing drugs, we also need to ask why they are eating food. GLP-1 are amazing because they can give you a head start on weight loss. But if you never do the work to understand what’s making you gain weight in the first place they’re basically useless.
A friend of mine got a gastric bypass and lost a ton of weight. She was super happy with her body and life improved a lot. Then life got very stressful and she became an alcoholic again. No we she’s gained weight again. The article is about a better weight loss formulation that doesn’t use GLP, but instead using glucagon and GIP peptides. I guess it’s got less side effects, maybe.

Can you get squash (juice concentrate) in the US? I took a shine to it in the UK, but all I can think that we have here is the frozen concentrate and maybe like some lemonade concentrate in a carton.

Trump’s whole term in office has been difficult to follow. What’s going on now? What’s the truth and what isn’t? Politicians lie, but trump is the best at misinformation.
The thing is that we don’t know, but because of the environment his administration has created, you have to doubt everything he says and be skeptical of every event they’re involved in.
The conspiratorial culture of the far right is infecting every aspect of his administration. At this point it doesn’t really matter what’s true and what’s fabricated, so long as it can be spun into a media event to feed his ego.
I need to take a break from the Internet.
Probably been mentioned already, but ZFS and BTRFS have options for full disk compression. Though there is cpu overhead with higher compression settings.
I bought a steam deck when they came out (the cheapest one so I could upgrade the storage myself), and it’s a pretty nice device. But I honestly couldn’t come up with a use case for it. I think I just don’t like games as much as I used to.
