Trump isn’t some virus that has befallen the country. He was elected, by Americans. People with certain beliefs voted for him and those beliefs will still be there after trumps death.

It’s not going to be over when he’s dead. It’s just a short break until the next one comes along.

To break the cycle you need to make sure, that people don’t adapt those beliefs anymore.

God rested on the seventh day, which was the Sabbath, so Saturday.

After the resurrection of Jesus, which was on a Sunday, Sunday became an important day for Christianity. This was the reason why the Roman Emperor Constantine made Sunday a resting day. It was still the first day of the week, though.

In the 20th century, it was decided (only for secular/economic reasons) to keep the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, as a unit and call it the end of the week, making Monday the first day of the week.

It doesn’t happen often enough to „hate“ it. In fact I don’t even remember it ever happening.

So the question is: what’s wrong with you that you cough all the time when someone tries to tell a moderately funny story?

What learned so far:

I hate this idea. I don’t want algorithms nor paid boosting to change the sorting of content. That’s one of the reasons I left Reddit.

Instead of introducing a complex internal currency or paid boosting, Fediverse instances could adopt a simple, transparent system inspired by Signal’s (the messenger) supporter badges.

Users voluntarily donate to their instance (one-time or recurring). In return, their profile gets a small, instance specific badge visible next to their avatar.

Badges are purely visual, they don’t have any influence on post visibility or sorting.

I’m not saying, that this is the best solution, but to me this solution is fair, doesn’t interfere with the core values of the fediverse and still raises awareness of the importance of financial support.
