How do you reconcile the Kobo wanting to sync reading position every time you turn it on? Or is that not a problem with your workflow?

I have issues in my own app and some other containers where the kobo is slow to upload reading stats, so every time my kobo wakes up, it throws up a dialog asking if I want to skip to my latest reading position. If I pick yes, it dumps me back 10-20 pages.

It’s easy enough to say no but it’s so annoying to have a delayed dialog every time I wake the thing up.

I’ve been on Kiva for years. It’s legit, but you only stand to lose money. There’s no cashing out (at all, afaik).

You lose money 2 ways: donating to Kiva operations when you fund a loan (it’s optional though), and defaulted loans. If that guy in Madagascar doesn’t repay the loan for his seeds and fertilizer, it’s just gone.

If the loan is repaid (and you get periodic emails every time they make a payment with some banal statement about how grateful the borrower is), Kiva adds it back to your account and you can relend it.

I’ve been completely hands off for the last 5 years. It just automatically re-loans when I have funds in my account and I get an email. If enough people default, I’ll have to decide if I put in more money or call it quits.

Here? We’re a rounding error not worth considering.

Lo and behold, the fucking forgotten Roku attached to a TV was doing a fresh DNS lookup every 30 seconds to try to call home and send telemetry data. It accounted for like 60% of my DNS traffic!

Realistically, most people entering as tourists need to be concerned with CBP asking for unlocked access to your phone, which will disappear into a back room for a few minutes while they presumably steal all your credentials. The broader scare stories about detention, interrogation, and deportation are really very rare.

I have some (stupid) non-white-passing family that have been travelling to the US (including Florida) regularly and they have had zero issues.

I would absolutely not go. Full stop. But when you look at the real numbers, tourist entry into the US isn’t down all that much and most people who desire to go don’t have any issues with immigration.
