  • It’s ok if u can’t relate, different people and places have different needs. Where I live there are areas where if you don’t fill your tank, you won’t make it to the next fuel stop. And no, the trees don’t have charging cables hanging off them. If you can do it that’s awesome, but they don’t work for people in rural cold climates quite yet! I’d love to have an “EV” hybrid thing with a smaller battery and a diesel on board generator, zero range anxiety and bonus points if the generator is an old mechanical diesel that can run veggie oil or used oil from my other shit boxes or various biofuels. Sure it won’t be as clean as a true EV but I bet it would be more efficient than a gas car.


  • Yea I’m all for simplicity. But honestly a modern EV is probably LESS complex than a modern ice. They all have the same complexities with stupid computers for every component (body control modules, “infotainment” crap, hell vw likes to have a module in each door and each seat to controll door locks windows etc) but Ice also had complications of an engine. I love gas engines I’m a gear head, but let me be the first to tell u that there’s a LOT less going on in an electric drivetrain than a gasser. Sure the control modules for evs are computers in of themselves, but a modern auto drivetrain has a computer for the engine and a sperate computer for / in the transmission, plus they both have computers for abs/tc and interior crap and cameras etc. My hurdle to adopting electric is their so goddamned expensive that they can’t outweigh oil, gas, and service costs yet. (If you disagree about that, that’s another conversation. I drive sub 3k$ cars when I have to but mainly ride motorcycles and do my own work so no there isn’t a way to get around cheaper in an EV than an ice for me yet)


  • Right but how exactly did AI make that happen? The execs are always trying to shitcan workers as they are the most valuable but also most expensive assets of any company. But you gave me 2 examples of NOT ai making you loose your job and have yet to explain how AI has screwed you. I understand it helps to be mad at something, just haven’t heard how you lost ur job due to AI specifically. The job market and economy as a whole is in the shitter right now and I don’t think it’s AI’s fault, in fact the investment in AI is the only think that’s making our economy LOOK less shit than it is, granted it’s incredibly inflated and bound to collapse at any moment.


  • My last 4 jobs have been in person interview. Never had luck with online aplications, hell my current job I’ve been at 2 years now wasn’t even hiring. I was moving to the area and thought it looked like a great place and reached out and we managed to make something happen. Industry dependent however it can be very hard to do that, nature of my business is mainly independently owned shops so it’s easy to get ahold of the boss and make a conversation happen, that isn’t the case everywhere.


  • So I don’t mean to be rude, and I am sorry to hear about your struggles in the job market, but how exactly did you loose ur job to ai? In ur second paragraph you even said it was politics that collapsed the company. In third you said lack of funding. I feel like a lot of this is because the economy is shit as a whole, how exactly has AI taken your job? Any competent senior full stack surely couldn’t be replaced by co pilot? Not that I’m educated on the topic.



  • Not only that but if it takes you 5 minutes of driving to realize u don’t have brakes it’s time you turn in your licence. I have burst lines before and once a line fails you no longer have any pedal pressure. If the line was cut when he got in his car right when starting the vehicle he should have stopped as the pedal went to the floor. More than likely his shit was rotted as I don’t see a pic of this cut line, if it were cut it would be incredibly obvious vs corrosion.



  • As a car and motorcycle enthusiast I can’t imagine never wanting to drive again, but then most people driving aren’t their just steering wheel holders using the 30 minute commute to get in their daily reels. Self driving cars are honestly probably better than half those morons that can’t be bothered to looks where they fling their 2 ton steel cage, but if they nail me on my motorcycle they have to pay. If a self driving appliance on wheels slams into me a PR firm will make sure they don’t pay dime to me. Until the people that sign off on this tech are directly responsible for everything their tech does then they should not be in the road point blank. Doesn’t matter how good or bad self driving cars are, with no responsibility to their actions they have no place roaming around the public where they can cause injury and property damage to others.









  • You write incredibly well! To add a negative to the ev side of things I’m sure there is exploration costs in finding battery materials just as there is in finding oil wells, but at least the battery is a reusable product for some time where the oil is burnt up then gone and another well needs to be found. Exploration costs are no doubt significantly higher for petroleum as we are chewing though it faster than we chew through batteries in a vehicles life span. I also do not think this paper is accounting for the actual oil changes required for a car, or the tires both are consuming. Once the energy density of batteries improved so that BEVs can be lighter there’s no doubt in my mind the efficiency numbers will soar past what they are now! Right now the biggest argument for ICE is energy density of the fuel, which is of particular importance when thinking of 18 wheelers or freight boat/trains. However the inefficiency of the combustion engine requires a transmissions and gears to get the power to the wheels. Every ounce u spin is power lost to the drivetrain before it’s delivered into forward motion!


  • So I did a brief search, and while I didn’t dig enough to find a coal fired only plant I found this study that calculated well -to - wheel (includes everything from pulling petrol from the ground to burning it off in the engine) emissions for gas, diesel, and electric. What this shows is that for a clean grid BEV are around 36% in Netherlands where there is hefty use of renewable energy, and as low as 21% in Saudi Arabia where electric is produced largely with petroleum products. Gas ice cars are around 18%, making BEV better by a few points. I can’t help but think if your specific elec plant is only coal fired that it would be a worse efficiency but alas id have to dig more to find a study on that. Interestingly, diesel ICE is around 25% which I did expect a higher number than gasoline but not by that much. Diesel is simply very energy dense. So tl;dr BEV are better in about every case. I can only imagine efficiency if using strictly renewables would be even greater than 36%!
