Yeah this is having a huge negative impact on industry. New grads expect step by step process for every task. Every year there is less ability to solve problems. I don’t know what the solution is but even if we remove llms from the conversation we have an issue with graduates not being able to problem solve. Add on top of that the influence of social media and the constant fear of being wrong and you end up with paralysis once these individuals enter the workforce and are required to solve bespoke problems.

No you can totally still do these kinds of things in cities in the US. You just have to sacrifice other things like space, car, etc and a lot of people that grew up in suburbs aren’t willing to do that.

Sounds like a very car centric lifestyle. I moved to a bike friendly city and my outings cost much less. A six pack of beer from the store will last me two nights out. A night out might be biking to a friend’s place for board game night or doing a group bike ride with stops on the way. Night out costs like 5usd. Granted, that’s not the only socializing I do, but in the summer especially I bike or walk 99% of the time.

Yeah pretty sure you can go back as far as you want in human history and people will tend to be friends with the people they work with. Gathering partners, building partners, scouting partners, etc. Befriending others to complete mutually beneficial tasks is a big part of the special sauce that defines our species. This idea that we shouldn’t befriend those we work with is absolutely wild to me. Like, you don’t need to be best friends, but you should get along and enjoy each other’s company.

Mate I’ve got to spend 40 hours a week with these people. I would much rather hire someone who is socially competent but needs to learn a few things technically than hire an asshole who is just going to be a pain in the ass.

Honestly if you view every interaction through a strictly transactional lens you’re not gonna have a good time being a human. Most of our lives are spent doing things we don’t really want to be doing, be that work or cleaning or building/repairing shelter, etc. The thing is, most people find ways to find some joy or comradery in these tasks. If your only goal is to complete each of them as quickly as possible you’re gonna spend most of your life being fucking miserable.

But getting back on track - not every company is built the way you describe. Personally, I’ve been able to build a team at my company where everyone gets their work done, enjoys each other’s company, and goes home after 40 hours. If I hire people who don’t get along with everyone else I lose that balance. So I hire people that fit the culture, and teach them the skills they need technically. The offices with a bunch of individualistic assholes tend to work longer hours, have poorer quality, and higher turnover rates. And they are all fucking miserable. Personally that is not something I’m interested in.

I feel like this is a really bad idea on their part. So far they’ve only been terrorizing blue communities, now everyone is gonna get a taste. Just a litttttle but harder for people to ignore their own eyes and ears.

Lol no these companies are now building their own fossil fuel plants. Mortgage the future is always the plan. I’ve been in the power industry for 15 years and only since AI have I been asked to work on fossil fuel construction projects rather than decommission projects

Neurons are much more sophisticated than transistors. A neuron can have multiple connections and can provide a range of values. Digital logic is all yes/no. I’m not sure we even can build something that mimics a brain with current technology.

I think the issue is you assume it will be enforced universally. It won’t. It will be dependent on the makeup of the district and the color of the individual voter. It will be up to individuals at polling stations (and any ICE present) whether ‘exceptions’ can be made for people that are ‘obviously citizens but forgot their ID’. Or whether a married woman’s name mismatch is an issue or not based on her skin/hair color and way of speaking. It’s going to be selectively enforced, by design
