I think it’s The Usual Suspects

I went into the article thinking this company was planning to try to use DNA samples of extinct species to clone them and reintroduce them, but it seems they just want to genetically modify existing animals to look like extinct species? I can’t say I really see the point, honestly. Even as far as research into genetic modifications goes, I feel like there are more practical applications of it than that.

As someone who played a lot of FH5 on Game Pass, that never happened. The DLCs added new content, they never took away existing content and locked it behind the DLC. You must have misunderstood something.

What I don’t understand is why they don’t just let everyone place orders regardless of current stock over a certain time window, then once the ordering window is closed, arrange for production to meet demand? Or at least do something like a first-come, first-serve waitlist after the initial stock sells out.
Sure, it would take significantly longer to go from order to delivery, but the customer experience would be so much better without having to deal with the mad scramble to try and get an order in the minute they open up. Letting people stake their claim even if stock hasn’t caught up yet would also deter scalpers.
Maybe there’s a good reason for this, but I don’t know what that could possibly be.

The most that I can prove is Europa Universalis 4, just north of 1100 hours on Steam. However, I strongly suspect my playtime in Guitar Hero 3 from high school likely exceeds that. Runescape might be another contender, but that was so long ago at this point that I don’t really have a good idea of how much play time I actually put into it.

Echoes of when the Long Island Iced Tea company rebranded to “Long Island Blockchain” back during that particular craze.
I feel like that’s pretty meaningfully different from the original claim that the US government allows cigarettes to be advertised to children.
Didn’t they close up the loopholes in advertising regulations that Juul exploited?
What? Tobacco is like, the one thing that actually has extremely stringent advertising regulations in the US. When vaping products like Juul came around, they were able to exploit loopholes in those laws, but I think those have pretty much been patched up by now.

In the context of the 1st Amendment it’s not illegal censorship, as private entities aren’t bound by the 1st Amendment in their own private spaces in the same way the government is. But in a more general sense you are correct, I think my brain just strongly associates accusations of censorship (in a US context at least) with accusations of 1st Amendment violations. I’ll adjust the phrasing.

The moderators of online communities have every right to manage the content of those communities as they see fit, as long as they’re within legal bounds.
That said, individuals also have the right to call said moderators a bunch of clueless asshats when they make dumbass decisions, as long as they’re abiding by the policies of the space where they’re saying it.
Microsoft banning the word “Microslop” from their Discord isn’t censorship is well within their legal rights, but they are a bunch of clueless asshats for thinking that it was a good idea.

As much I agree with the idea of abandoning Discord - honestly, fuck 'em - I just don’t know how I or many other people could practically make the full switch… While I might be able to convince a few of my close friends to go with me to whatever new platform comes about, there’s just no way any larger communities would be able to uproot and leave without losing 90%+ of their members, and that’s only if the owners of those communities are even willing to leave in the first place. Inertia is a powerful thing, and the reality of the situation is that the vast majority of Discord users will not be convinced to leave over this.
I want to defend my privacy, and I want to tell these corporate ghouls to shove it, but at the same time, I don’t want to become a digital hermit. Having to decide between protecting my privacy and cutting myself off from so many valued social connections and communities feels like an impossible choice.
I know I’m not saying anything particularly new or actionable here, I’m just… tired. I’m tired of having to flee from platform after platform into increasingly smaller and more insular corners of the internet to escape the endless cycle of enshittification. I’m tired of what the internet has become, where the only places left where you can exist without being manipulated and exploited by corporate interests are a handful of small, decentralized platforms that are becoming increasingly cut off from the internet at large. I’m just tired of this shit, man.
Sure, probably, but it definitely would’ve been a surprise.
I came pretty close to putting sour cream on my bagel once on a particularly groggy morning.

Was he not just being facetious?

As an aside, I always hated how Dems completely caved on the terminology of the ACA. They should’ve been saying the words “Affordable Care Act” at every turn, keeping the actual goal of the whole thing more in the popular consciousness. Going along with calling it “Obamacare” implicitly accepted the GOP’s framing of the bill and allowed them to more easily control the narrative.

It’s important to remember that Jones is a grifter first and foremost. He has never sincerely cared about anything in his life beyond his own enrichment, and I don’t think this is a sign of him starting now. That said, I think it may still be significant that even hardcore grifters like Jones and Fuentes are starting to publicly speak against Trump. Grifters are always going to follow the money, so if Trump’s ship is sinking so fast that even Alex Jones sees it to be more profitable to start to move away from him, maybe the MAGA cult of personality really is starting to finally fall apart…
Granted, that’s all speculation, and Trump has managed to defy every previous prediction of the fall of his influence, so I don’t want to jump to any conclusions here, but after the Canadian elections, I feel like I have a bit more reason to afford myself a little optimism for the future…
