Truly, I feel discomfort when I read AI output

That feels like the ugly norm for way more than 15 years. I’m surprised it’s called a crisis just now.

I feel so out of the loop. What crisis is hitting the industry? From my point of view things are going as usual. Is this about big publishers creating mediocre bullshit I don’t pay attention to anyways?

I think you need to check out the genre of Otome games. There’s hundreds of weird dating sim style games catered to women which feature a male cast.
It’s debatable of how sexualized these characters are. But whatever they do appeals to their female audience.

Indeed, if the game isn’t financially successful, you can bet that publishers will shy away from similar titles and also the devs in the future.
Still, Krafton is one of the worst publishers I can imagine. So not giving them money is fair here.

Well no, it’s British, not European

They don’t want you to know that Lego lost that patent years ago and everyone can do the knobs now. They still hold patents on mini figs and their new smart brick though.

I started some kind of anime themed browser game one day with the intent of wanting to see what kind of people would play such weeb trash.
Turns out the kind of people to play that were loyal friends to stay in touch with for over a decade and my future wife, too!
The first vtuber (I am aware of) debuted in 2016, making vtubers closer to 2012 than 2026.
I’m old…

Ketchup is a soft drink. It’s fluid, made with fruit and sugar
I’m in the same boat. For many things I have zero experience in, LLMs provide me with good guidance and starting points. For me it was self-hosting and Smart Home. Of course hallucinations are real and the output can be nonsense, especially if your questions become increasingly niche. However some healthy skepticism, evaluation of answers and additional sources (just searching for key words online) keep me moving forward.
Just don’t try to learn anything dangerous from it, like identifying mushrooms.
PS: all those links and tips in the comments are worth gold

It’s April 1st. Maybe it’s just a prank
As a hobby I’m dabbling into local LLM shenanigans and self-hosting.
Professionally I’m working on a VR training sandbox involving trains and signal boxes.

I feel like those are the same people blocking every beneficial change for the company to maintain the status quo (and perhaps their position).

But think of the children!

Being able to make my own decisions and experiences instead of getting them laid out before me. Having my own household and agency over my life did a lot and also improved my relationship with my parents.
Only for me to move back after 10 years, take over the property and am now looking after them instead of the other way around.
Yes, it’s true
