So does KDE Connect. It’s a standalone program that happens to also be integrated into the KDE DE.
Also find me on sh.itjust.works and Lemmy.world!

I’m aware, but some devices I use regularly like an iPhone, work computer, etc, are limited in their capacity to run it.

It’s not that complicated. New user gets an answer, feels like the post isn’t relevant anymore, and deletes it without thinking.
Still a massive dick move, but still.

Unfortunately, this is nothing new. Forums have been dealing with this for decades. XKCD even made a comic about forum posts going stale.

You can use KDE Connect itself without KDE.

Hardly.
Curtis Yarvin and his associates have talked to FUTO and attempted to pitch Eron on investing in his tech startup Urbit. Yarvin also sat down and talked to Eron about issues relating to technology. Eron did not agree to fund their work and did not find their pitch to be particularly compelling. That is the extent of FUTO’s relationship with Yarvin and Urbit.

I like getting my news delivered quickly without weird limitations.

Ease of use (once it’s set up). Getting it set up is the tricky part, but it’s just tedious more than anything else.
I actually have two subscriptions, one for the newsgroup and one for the indexer. The newsgroup access is monthly while the indexer is annual, like $12/yr or something, stupid cheap.
Absolutely worth it.

I pay ~$15/mo for Usenet so I can get…news…easily… 👀

A non-required general use field that is entirely optional.
Yes, this absolute bare-minimum effort deserves all the outrage 🙄
Plex used to be for the community. Their recent decisions have proven otherwise, they are seeking more of the almighty dollar so the imaginary money line will keep going up forever.
Sounds familiar.
So I don’t disagree with you on principle.
Now technically, Plex is self-hosted as you run the server program on your own hardware and can determine whether you want to use their authentication servers or roll your own internal thing.

Very nice. I’m desperately trying to get rid of my Ring cameras. This looks like a viable option.

But it requires SSL to work, and WiFi cameras are not the greatest option for that kind of bandwidth.
I know, I tried it. It never worked right.

Pretty nice! I tried Frigate last year, but it was so finicky and didn’t play nice with…well, anything. It was difficult to configure correctly, the docs are all over the place, and it absolutely did not meet the “wife approval factor”.
Definitely gonna be trying this out.
Mandatory AI disclaimer: i don’t use AI for coding. Zero code (C++ or Javscript) has been written by or with AI support in this project. I have used AI extensively for the CSS stuff that i hate, but reviewed and mostly edited it anyway. I have also used AI for research and to write the dockerfile faster, since i am no docker expert. I have personally written the dockerfile anyway, and personally tested as well. The logo has been created with AI, probably it shows.
This. I really appreciate this. It shows that you’re using it as a tool (which is where this entire AI train should have stopped) and not a “talent replacement” (like so many others).

That’s an interesting method. I actually have a PS2 myself, running PSBBN. Maybe I’ll try that out.

Is keeping your media organized that much of a challenge?
For me, yes. Very much so. Having my *arr stack handle it makes my life that much easier. Sure, there’s a bit of a time cost to get it set up (which I find fun - I enjoy figuring out how to automate things), but once it’s set up, it works really well. Especially if it’s set up with Usenet.

Plex has been around quite a while longer than JF. Before JF, the only way to really have a “self-hosted Netflix” was with Plex, so there are a lot of us who built our long-standing media setups around that.
That said, I have a JF instance running and matched almost 1:1 with Plex specifically for this situation, so I’m going to start pivoting everyone to that as I wind Plex down.

I have the lifetime pass, bought it for like $80 many moons ago.
looks like we’ve arrived.
Agreed, this is the tipping point. This is where we will see Plex start to abandon the lifetime pass in favor of “imaginary money line go up forever” subscriptions.
Ohhhhhhhhhh
Man I need to read better
