That’s very interesting about the relationship between nitrogen and protein.
You cannot unsee de oeuf.

My concern is that he’ll be under a lot of pressure to call an early general election. And an election campaign will completely suck the energy out of dealing with the shit really starting to hit the fan with the economy. Worse still, it will probably be followed by a chaotic Reform government, or months of wrangling over a coalition.
I think it might be actually be better in the long run if he loses the byelection. It’s hard to see any positive change happening any time soon though.

It seems improbable to me that absolutely none of the current risks start to become realised in the immediate future, and that we are allowed to resume muddling on like before.
As an englishman I hate to say it, but the president of the united states is a true agent of the future.

Which foods do you think will see the highest inflation?

What has been going on with Finnish trade since the invasion? I haven’t seen any reporting on this here in the UK, as far as I’m aware.
I also hope fossil fuel usage starts declining. I’m feeling cautiously optimistic, atleast about my country.
Well you will be pleased to hear that I am done with fossil fuels. Part of my reason for creating this post is to get some perspective before laying down most of my savings on offgrid renewables.

What is your personal hunch about where the real economy is going for the median family in Europe/US?

I’m actually a bit worried about Burnham winning the byelection. If he becomes PM we’ll be having a political crisis at the same time as an economic one.
No it doesn’t - in fact A4 would make it more versatile
I continue to be astonished at how much data people are getting through.
Am I technogrouch for continuing to watch video at no more than 1080p?

Well it worked for me :)
Check out Starlabs - their laptops have Intel processors but use Coreboot as the BIOS with the intel management engine disabled. They’re good with spares and are designed to run Linux. I have one and it runs Debian 13 flawlessly.

Look for ‘manage exceptions’ in the settings if your browser is Firefox-based.

Really we should all just be using GNOME Web on a fresh Debian install. It makes me feel relaxed just thinking about it.

I agree - there will probably always be differences and that might be even be acceptable. But extreme differences (like we have currently) are just madness. It’s stupidly inefficient in terms of allocating limited material resources to where they are needed. And the ‘meritocratic’ moral argument quickly falls down once wealth and income differences exceed a fairly modest level. If you claimed that a person like Jeff Bezos has the same productive output as 2.5 million nurses or is 2.5 million times more clever or righteous or whatever, even an 8-year-old would think you have a screw loose.

I even have a Latitude running with the Linux-libre kernel 👍

“Fish and chips por favor.”

Crazy - it hasn’t happened again since my original post, until literally just now. I come on Lemmy to look for the thread and remind myself how to fix it, and here is your comment!
I’ll have a look, thanks :) How is it less secure?

This has proven to be the one 👍
Not sure if I’ve had exactly this but I usually open the lid to turn my laptop display back on, pull out the USB-c dock and then open and close the overview with the super key.
I usually have ‘mirrored’ selected as the multi-display option in my settings FWIW.
