As a Norwegian fairly interested in fotball, I wish everyone could engage slightly less with fascist governments and corrupt organisations. We can do better than USA and FIFA.

Threat to mathematics, in the same say way as the threat to software? Noise machines (aka bullsit generators) are destroying voluntary work (open source contributions / peer reviews) because of the marked decrease in signal to noise?
Or, in the “LLMs will do math better than humans”?
I wonder why the distinction isn’t better made. The bubble sure wants to pretend it’s the latter.

Minesweeper and Pinnball is the closest they’ve gotten

Why the tuck would anyone think a parrot knows about human medicine?

Dude. I’m genuinely asking here. Whatever it is. I hope you figure it out.

It kinda seems to me you’re deciding both sides of the argument. It’s like a straw man monologue show.

Not really what I’m saying. More along the lines of: poison is bad to drink, but great for killing weed.
As for LLMs and sciences (and most fields): “drinking poison” -> “treating LLM output as factual”. “killing weed” -> “some otherwise mundane language transformation that you verify the correctness of”.

Most people use LLMs poorly and irresponsible. Most problems they are used for, are a poor choice as well. That doesn’t mean they cannot be useful.

Perhaps. My issue is more with the muddy waters when it comes to “AI”. It might be because it’s near to my profession, and I frequently encounter a fervent, yet clueless enthusiasm. When that same lack of specificity is used to argue for what they don’t really understand either, for example:
The problem isn’t that AI is dogshit. In fact there are many things that have been revolutionized because of AI. Our understanding of biology has catapulted forward decades because of new models.
It does beg the question if they understand what they are talking about. “AI is dogshit”, is weird. Are we talking about LLMs here? They are great for a lot of things. They are pretty horrible at doing what most seem to think they are great at, but that’s perhaps a different matter.
Then there is the “Our understanding of biology has catapulted forward decades because of new models”. If we are generalizing “AI models” to include the ones that have contributed to biology, we end up with a definition of “AI” that becomes “model based computational solution optimization”.

AlphaFold is not an LLM tho
Ffs. Human intelligence might not be all that much, but at least it’s intelligence, unlike LLMs.
Does it take four hours to vote in USA?! That is insane.
I’ve never spent more than 4 minutes the four times I’ve voted in the general election in Norway. That is in person voting. If you also include getting to and from the voting place, add 10-20 minutes, round trip, walking.

Obviously fake. Flag should blow in the opposite direction when the plane flies forward. Though, maybe the image is mirrored.

Selection bias is relevant here. Some people care about X, some about Y. The intersection might be hypocrites, but your argument seems to imply they are the same group.

Except when anyone does any work on the concrete, anywhere in the building.

Children are in real danger of harm, as a result of this. I am thinking of the general safety for children, in wanting them to not be individually identified and targeted for manipulation and have their data sold.
It also equally applies to everyone else. What absolute ghouls and/or dimwits that are pushing for this.
I find that it really depends. Some contracted work mostly take specialised equipment, where the necessary skill is something you can pick up. The cost of the equipment is often (at entry level, but more than good enough for the task at hand) less than the show + a couple of hours.
You spent the whole weekend maybe. But you learned something new. Got some nice tools. And more often than not, did a better job because you didn’t rush anything.
I’m genuinely curious as to what the fuck identifying on the OS level has to do with social media, and then what the fuck that has to do with protecting kids. If you’re a parent who engages with your child, and… hear me out here… take care of your child, restricting access is done the same way they they don’t get access to detergents, and similar.
In the consumption of media, have tools that let parents manage and control the type of content they can access. Similar to how you can child proof cabinets.
And, back to my original question. What the fuck does this have to do with identifying on the fucking operating system level?
I’m genuinely curious if anyone pushing this has been asked to justify this? Surely, you’d expect some aspect of reasoning to be behind this, no?
Edit: not to mention. Corporations have shown to reliably and consistently be bereft of any and all ethics and morals. One can more easily argue that identifying children is likely going to be harmful, as they’ll be tracked and targeted in any way that can be argued to private equity groups (or similarly condensed evils), to generate “value”. “Want to do behavioral experiment on kids for cheap? We can now do this insanely cheap, as we track the effect on a per child basis”
How does it compare to Alabaster Dawn?
