i really worry about this…
similar with fdroid & Foss app store developers. also, different but similar worries, 3rd party android roms like Graphene OS…
i really hope a fully open source mobile device hardware & software stack’s supply chain & ecosystem can evolve to fill our needs… (where the community efforts are unified enough to self sustain, and where novice users can have confidence in a default choice before being forced diving deeper into niche projects)
pie in the sky… hopefully not a pipe dream… not forever at least

headline too vague. not worth clicking.

i second that emitting emitting emotion…!
horrific choice of name…
have you tried all the domain choices? i haven’t tried with github lately but many sites will accept aliases if i use the more obscure domains like 8alias.* or slmail.* etc

if you’re not actually promoting gmail, you ought to make that explicitly clear.
by pointing out something bad about proton and praising gmail’s version of that, it looks like you’re doing nothing other than recommending gmail in a privacy community.
everyone already knows gmail has high usability and convenience and zero (financial) cost. using it as an example in this community is redundant and ineffective. better to use another e2ee email service as an example.
China has much more better talent than idols… I’m a fan of Chinese epic cinema from the 1990s so i know for a fact idol actors are not necessary for China to impress the world
why cheapen star trek or even China and any country with something as low as idols…
idols don’t become popular without corporations because they are less talented in each skill than specialist singers, dancers, and actors. so they need corporate marketing power to stay in the public attention. they are more manufactured and have less artisanship.
Star Trek is also great because of more average looking faces, and even super ugly alien faces. this tells the audience that anyone can be important, not just the gods and goddesses of one particular faith and aesthetic.
and why not create a new series to feature Chinese and other Asian actors? Star Trek had not been the best with Asian representation but they started the process. build on that. Michelle Yeoh is not the youngest (some people care about that meaningless thing, i guess) but she is HUGELY talented, way better than all idols from all countries.
this fan casting also impacts as rude because it seems like wanting to undo a cast that already exists and has a huge fanbase.
please pass it on, back to the reddit community.
