OpenPGP is an encryption standard

JMAP/IMAP iirc lets you use other clients like Thunderbird (you won’t be able to use 3rd party clients with proton unless you pay for it so take that into account too)

there are ways to make voicecalls and videocalls work but it’s not at easy to setup as discord or using a public matrix instance

that’s fair, but setting up a matrix server is a PITA where you also have several server/client setup that may or may not use a COTURN + MatrixRTC (you also need to setup COTURN in XMPP)

a few of these things are supported in XMPP, it’s just a matter of having the right client and server setup
