Seemed to become a rarer skill in the late 80s early 90s. It’s now at the point where I’m surprised if a co-op or younger coworker knows how to touch type. So strange with how “everything is computer” for so many jobs. How it is not a prerequisite for computer science courses blows my mind. I don’t think I could manage it.

i use it docked more than anything else with a 1080p monitor my old work was chucking. Works perfectly.

They kept stealing or destroying the ones in my area so they started putting them on massively tall poles. It’s pretty unnerving to look up and notice them everywhere.

For one build I made that mistake. I went with SFF partly due to motherboard and RAM shortages and i could barely upgrade it… I won’t do that again. But before that i would start at low to mid spec for components, a mobo and PSU with room to grow, and slowly max them out over time.

However, like i said in another reply it seems like i can repurpose less and less in later builds as tech evolves more rapidly these days and or I run into a wall with bottlenecking something or another even if i can upgrade a component. As a result I’m definitely taking a longer pause this time.

True. I guess it’s not completely purposeless as I’ll reuse and repurpose what i can. But for last build especially I could barely reuse any of it. GPU, increasing power reqs overall and avoiding bottlenecking seem to muck up that strategy the most. If anything i enjoy what feels like a huge leap in performance every time i build one.

I run my boxes for so long I end up having to basically build a whole new rig by the time it is obsolete thanks to socket, RAM and GPU changes. Feels like it almost defeats the purpose of rolling your own. I mostly just use my Steam Deck at this point. Tired of keeping up with all that combined with shortages.

Friend has it and they describe reading as quite painful. I only discovered this after recommending a book and they said they never read any unless they were forced to.

I helped them find a special font that made it much easier on their brain and sanity. Difficult part was setting up their OS and apps to use it. There needs to be more awareness for that IMO. They’re a programmer and highly advanced in math, FWIW.

Dad also has it. I suspect he also has what you have. Was in the trades as a result. Getting texts from him requires a lot of translation because he also can’t spell… at all. Oddly enough he’s a bit obsessed with money and his calculator.

I enjoy videos of corvids dismantling shit that annoys them like the anti-bird spikes etc. They don’t just dismantle, they do it angrily.

Enlightenment was always intriguing to me but man was it buggy and a hog on my “i found this lil guy in a skid” class computers. Has it gotten better ?
